In this vital role, the Senior Director, Corporate Affairs, CV Communications will lead communications for Amgen’s innovative and diverse Cardiovascular portfolio, helping shape how we engage key audiences, advance business priorities, and strengthen Amgen’s reputation in one of the most important areas of medicine. This Global and U.S. CV leadership role will oversee a high-performing team of communicators and serve as a senior strategic partner to CV leaders. The Senior Director will be responsible for developing integrated, insight-led communications strategies grounded in clear business objectives, audience understanding, data, and measurable outcomes. The role will support Amgen’s marketed portfolio, prepare for future launches, elevate scientific and patient-centered storytelling, and help the business navigate a dynamic external environment. The successful candidate will be an experienced healthcare communications leader with deep cardiovascular expertise, strong executive counsel, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex science, stakeholder dynamics, and business priorities into clear strategies that deliver measurable value. This leader will also bring practical experience using AI, digital engagement, analytics, and emerging technologies to strengthen communications impact, improve how teams work, and support more insight-led decision-making.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 5 years of communications or public relations experience Or Master’s degree and 8 years of communications or public relations experience Or Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of communications or public relations experience
  • 5 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.

Nice To Haves

  • 15 or more years of experience in communications, public relations, corporate affairs, or related fields.
  • Deep understanding of the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry.
  • Significant experience in cardiovascular communications, ideally including marketed products, pipeline milestones, data presentations, regulatory moments, and/or launch communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute integrated communications strategies tied to clear business objectives, priority audiences, insights, KPIs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of data, analytics, social listening, media intelligence, stakeholder insights, and measurement as core inputs to modern communications strategy.
  • Practical experience using AI, digital platforms, analytics, and emerging technology to improve communications strategy, execution, efficiency, measurement, and impact.
  • Strong executive presence and experience counseling senior leaders on business-critical communications opportunities and challenges.
  • Experience leading teams, developing talent, creating clarity, and maintaining high standards in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong understanding of external stakeholder engagement, including media, advocacy, healthcare professionals, policy audiences, and patient communities.
  • Meaningful experience across earned media, digital and social media, internal communications, issues management, and executive communications.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific and technical information into clear, compelling communications for multiple audiences.
  • Strong judgment, critical thinking, and ability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and rapid change.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior communications advisor to Cardiovascular leadership teams, providing strategic counsel grounded in business priorities, stakeholder insights, external trends, and reputation opportunities.
  • Develop integrated communications strategies that align with business objectives, define priority audiences, use data and insights to shape the approach, establish KPIs up front, and measure outcomes.
  • Lead communications for key marketed products, data and regulatory milestones, and launch readiness activities, including the potential launch of a new prostate cancer medicine.
  • Mobilize a high-performing Cardiovascular communications team – inclusive of both Global and U.S. support – by setting clear priorities, strengthening partnership, supporting development, and creating clarity in a dynamic environment.
  • Translate scientific, clinical, and business information into clear, credible, audience-relevant communications across channels.
  • Strengthen the use of data, analytics, social listening, audience insights, and measurement to inform strategy, optimize execution, and demonstrate impact.
  • Identify opportunities to responsibly use AI, digital tools, and emerging technology to improve planning, content development, stakeholder engagement, workflow efficiency, and measurement.
  • Partner across Corporate Affairs, including Advocacy, Enterprise Media, Internal Communications, Digital and Social, Policy Communications, and other key functions, to deliver integrated strategies.
  • Work cross-functionally with Commercial, Medical, Legal, Regulatory, Investor Relations, and other partners to ensure communications are aligned, compliant, insight-driven, and business-relevant.
  • Partner with Government Affairs, Value & Access, Advocacy, Commercial, Medical, and other colleagues to ensure communications strategies reflect the evolving healthcare policy environment, patient access considerations, stakeholder expectations, and the broader external landscape shaping oncology care.
  • Modernize how Amgen tells the Cardiovascular story through sharper stakeholder mapping, digital engagement, content strategy, executive visibility, and audience-first channel planning.
  • Provide strong oversight of agency partners, ensuring clear direction, high-quality execution, efficient ways of working, and measurable impact.
  • Help the team anticipate and navigate a fast-moving environment, including emerging issues, stakeholder dynamics, external trends, and opportunities to engage.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of local and regional priorities, manage diverse perspectives, and lead through ambiguity in a highly matrixed global environment.
