About The Position

Help lead Walmart’s global communications strategy—shaping reputation, strengthening trust, and translating strategic priorities into bold, differentiated storytelling that expands reach and drives relevance. As Senior Director, Communications, you’ll serve as a senior spokesperson and strategic advisor, guiding proactive media engagement and crisis communications. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide messaging, build scalable communications activations, and integrate our storytelling approach to bring greater cohesion and strategic focus. About Global Communications Global Communications is Walmart’s enterprise communications hub—aligning messaging, channels, and storytelling to support business priorities and protect and advance our reputation. We operate as a strategic partner to senior leadership, connecting corporate narrative to local relevance through disciplined planning, strong media relationships, and consistent brand and messaging standards. This role helps set the direction for how Walmart shows up with various audiences, building strategies and programs to reinforce Walmart as the destination for choice, convenience, and everyday value.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience expanding narratives to new audiences and cultural spaces
  • Proven success as a spokesperson with top-tier national and local media, including crisis response.
  • Expertise building integrated communication strategies (earned, advocacy, digital/social, reputational campaigns).
  • Strategic rigor and a proven track record elevating creative standards within large organizations
  • Experience leading teams and agencies, improving processes, and managing risk/compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field and 6 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area OR 8 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct media experience.
  • Government or media relations experience in a Fortune 500 company.
  • Managerial experience running media components of political election or grassroots advocacy campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior corporate spokesperson, handling top-tier media inquiries
  • Translate business strategy into forward-looking narrative themes that shape how Walmart competes and is perceived
  • Anticipate retail, tech and consumer trends and translate insights into actionable communication strategies
  • Expand storytelling beyond traditional media into tastemaker, lifestyle, and emerging audience ecosystems to influence perception
  • Standardize processes, manage agency/supplier performance, and develop communications talent.
