About The Position

The Senior Director, Campbell Library, is the senior administrator responsible for the vision, leadership, and effective operation of Rowan University's main library in Glassboro. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice Chancellor for Information Resources and Technology, the Senior Director leads Campbell Library as an academic, cultural, research, student-success, and technology hub and ensures that its people, spaces, collections, services, and systems advance the University's mission.

The Senior Director is accountable for coordinating performance across Campbell Library's leadership and service portfolio, including Teaching & Learning, Access Services and Facilities Operations, Collection Services, Discovery Services, Library Technology Services, and related programs and administrative functions. The role leads through Campbell Library's leadership structure and establishes clear priorities, decision rights, service expectations, and accountability for results.

Campbell Library’s technology, discovery, collection, licensing, and service functions support users across Rowan University. The Senior Director is responsible for Campbell's delivery of those shared functions and works in close collaboration with libraries serving Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (Rowan-Virtua SOM), and the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM).

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited) or other related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of progressive leadership in academic or research libraries
• Demonstrated expertise in cross-campus service coordination and infrastructure leadership
• Proven record in strategic planning, budget oversight, and team development
• Deep knowledge of academic library operations across public services, collections, systems, and metadata
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

• Additional graduate degree in a related field (e.g., education, public administration, health sciences)
• Experience managing services in a multi-campus or health sciences academic environment
• Familiarity with national standards for archives, discovery, and bibliographic control (e.g., MARC, RDA, BIBFRAME, DACS)

Responsibilities

• Champion a clear, user-centered vision for Campbell Library grounded in student success, faculty teaching and research, access, and collaboration.
• Position Campbell Library as a cultural and technological center of the University by integrating its physical spaces, digital presence, collections, academic services, and partnerships.
• Represent Campbell Library in executive planning, accreditation, compliance, and institutional effectiveness activities, and advocate for the resources needed to fulfill its mission.
• Lead complex organizational, service, technology, and space transitions while maintaining continuity of critical operations.
• Lead strategic and annual planning, goal-setting, assessment, performance measurement, and resource planning aligned with University and IRT priorities.
• Build a culture of transparent communication, evidence-informed decision-making, shared purpose, professional standards, inclusion, accessibility, and accountability.
• Provide strategic and operational oversight for Campbell Library's leadership and service portfolio, including Teaching & Learning, Access Services and Facilities Operations, Collection Services, Discovery Services, Library Technology Services, and other functions assigned to the position.
• Set priorities, decision parameters, service standards, and performance expectations; oversee evaluation, professional development, succession planning, and cross-training.
• Develop and maintain clear policies, procedures, workflows, documentation, governance practices, and service standards.
• Develop and administer operating and collection budgets, forecasts, procurement, contracts, licenses, renewals, and vendor performance.
• Use cost and use data, service metrics, and lifecycle information to guide investments, reductions, and resource allocation, and to ensure that contracted tools are implemented and delivering value.
• Oversee Campbell-managed collection strategy, licensing, budget allocation, and assessment, using cost, use, and impact data to support sustainable and equitable decisions.
• Guide the lifecycle management of print and digital collections, including selection, access, rightsizing, weeding, storage, preservation, and transparent consultation with faculty and other stakeholders.
• Advance bibliographic and metadata integrity and effective discovery across Alma/Primo and related platforms, using relevant frameworks and standards.
• Collaborate with Archives & Special Collections to support responsible stewardship of Rowan's institutional memory, rare materials, and born-digital content.
• Ensure that Campbell-managed collection, discovery, and system services are delivered on a shared basis with input from the other Rowan library directors.
• Guide the evolution of research support, instruction, and information literacy initiatives, especially through the Teaching & Learning Team.
• Promote inclusive student-facing services and engagement, including outreach programs, digital learning objects, and liaison programs.
• Support integration of digital scholarship services and the growth of the Digital Scholarship Center and Center for Digital Humanities Research.
• Define and lead the strategic direction for Campbell Library technology and systems, ensuring that Library Technology Services advances the Library's goals and user experience.
• Align library systems and services with IRT architecture and operations, including affiliate access, EZproxy, OpenAthens, Primo, LibApps, metadata pipelines, and other shared platforms.
• Ensure that library technologies and digital services are reliable, accessible, secure, interoperable, and sustainable.
• Evaluate systems and tools based on user value, implementation readiness, interoperability, lifecycle requirements, and total cost, while promoting process documentation, cross-training, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the directors of the CMSRU, Rowan-Virtua SOM, and SSVM libraries to coordinate shared technology, discovery, licensing, collection strategy, standards, procurement, and institutional initiatives within the framework of each library's local governance and reporting structure.
• Establish or sponsor cross-library forums and working groups as appropriate to surface operational issues, coordinate changes, and improve shared services.
• Engage with regional and national consortia and external partners, including PALCI, VALE, LibraryLinkNJ, NJEdge, HathiTrust, DPLA, and other organizations as appropriate.
• Advance open access, open educational resources, diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, public scholarship, and related University priorities in partnership with academic and administrative stakeholders.
