About The Position

The Senior Director, Benefits will lead the development and execution of the company’s global or U.S. benefits strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and workforce needs. This role involves designing, evaluating, and enhancing various benefit programs including health and welfare, retirement, wellbeing, leave, and ancillary offerings. The position requires analyzing market trends, benchmarking data, utilization patterns, and employee feedback to recommend program enhancements and cost-management strategies. Collaboration with Finance and executive leadership on benefits budgeting, forecasting, and long-term cost planning is essential. A key focus will be driving innovation in employee wellbeing, mental health, financial wellness, and family support offerings. Additionally, the role oversees the day-to-day administration of all employee benefit programs, ensuring operational excellence and a high-quality employee experience. This includes ensuring accurate and compliant administration of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, COBRA, leave, and wellness programs. The Senior Director will lead the annual open enrollment strategy, communications, systems testing, and execution, and partner with HRIS, Payroll, and vendors for seamless integrations and data integrity. Establishing and monitoring service-level agreements and operational performance metrics is also a core responsibility. The role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, DOL), oversees plan documentation, filings, audits, nondiscrimination testing, and vendor compliance. It also involves leading relationships with brokers, consultants, TPAs, carriers, and other benefit service providers, managing RFP processes, contract negotiations, renewals, and vendor performance evaluations. The Senior Director will lead and develop a high-performing benefits team, foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement, and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership. Collaboration with various HR functions and executive leadership is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required
  • 12+ years of progressive benefits experience, including significant leadership responsibility in benefit design and administration.
  • Deep expertise in health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, leave administration, and benefits compliance.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and related regulations.
  • Experience managing brokers, consultants, and third-party administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, organizational change, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and executive influencing capabilities.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS and benefits administration systems such as Workday, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms preferred.
  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM, or related certification preferred.

  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost optimization through vendor partnerships and program redesign.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing benefits team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on benefits trends, employee experience, and workforce implications.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR Business Partners, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Communications, and DEI teams.
  • Present recommendations and insights to executive leadership and governance committees.
