As a Senior Director, Alliance Management, at Gilead you will play a critical role in shaping and executing high-impact strategic alliances that advance our research, development, and commercialization objectives. This role exists to ensure that complex external partnerships deliver on their scientific, operational, and financial potential. You will serve as the enterprise owner of alliance execution—aligning internal stakeholders, governing decision-making, anticipating risk, and driving value realization across a global, matrixed environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience OR PhD and 12 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MBA or equivalent) in Business, Life Sciences, Medicine, or Law
  • Experience leading alliance management or partnership execution in pharmaceutical or life sciences settings
  • Knowledge of oncology, virology (HIV, hepatitis), or inflammation pharmaceutical markets
  • Experience with global partnerships, including EU and Japan
  • Integration Management experience
  • Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, and matrix leadership capability

Responsibilities

  • Set alliance direction, scope, and operating cadence in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Establish and lead governance forums that enable effective decision-making and issue resolution.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for critical alliance risks.
  • Ensure internal teams are aligned with contractual commitments, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor adherence to research, development, and commercialization plans.
  • Lead or support contract renegotiations and new business agreements.
  • Oversee forecasting inputs and alliance “health checks” to support financial and strategic planning.
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve execution risks across portfolios of active alliances.
  • Drive continuous improvement through audits, best-practice sharing, and process ownership.
  • Serve as Gilead’s internal expert on assigned partner companies, including strategy, organization, and financial context.
  • Engage senior leadership with clear insights, recommendations, and decision support.
  • Contribute to alliance management capability-building through training, tools, and shared standards.
