About The Position

FlightSafety International is the world’s premier professional aviation training company and supplier of flight simulators, visual systems and displays to commercial, government and military organizations. The company provides training for pilots, technicians and other aviation professionals from 167 countries and independent territories. FlightSafety operates the world’s largest fleet of advanced full-flight simulators and award-winning maintenance training at Learning Centers and training locations in the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom. The Senior Director, Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s global accounting organization, while ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls. The role maintains accounting policies, drives continuous process improvement, and partners closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Legal, and business leaders to support strategic growth while maintaining strong financial governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of Industry Accounting experience
  • Public and/or Corporate accounting experience
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Deltek CostPoint, Hyperion Financial Reporting, or similar financial ERPs.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Government cost-plus contract accounting requirements GAAP, IFRS, DCMA, DCAA, CAS standards.
  • Internal controls, consolidation, and reporting experience in a corporate environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft products (Power BI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Action and results oriented - set strategic goals and achieve those goals.
  • Strong adaptability, communication, organization, and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or government services contracting organizations, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight to accounting team, including development and implementation of policies, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
  • Lead team to ensure timely completion of accounting close process on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis in compliance with U.S. GAAP and company-established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy of consolidated financial statements and support schedules to be submitted to the Board of Directors and Berkshire Hathaway, the Parent Company, within the deadlines defined.
  • Analyze financial results to provide senior leadership with an understanding of FlightSafety International’s financial performance.
  • Provide accounting guidance for strategic initiatives.
  • Own SOX compliance and internal control framework.
  • Perform technical accounting research, implement new accounting standards, and advise internal stakeholders on accounting / financial matters.
  • Serve as primary contact for internal and external auditors and coordinate remediation findings.
  • Support ERP implementations and transformation initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, while leading and developing a high-performing team.
  • Collaborate with other departments and lead process improvement projects and initiatives.
