About The Position

The Senior Director of Accounting provides strategic and operational leadership for the accounting function, overseeing financial reporting, general ledger activities, close processes, internal controls, audits, and compliance across the organization. The role directly leads Corporate Accounting and provides functional oversight to the Hospitality Directors of Finance and the Retail Accounting team through dotted-line reporting relationships. The Senior Director establishes enterprise-wide accounting standards, monthly close calendars, controls, and report expectations while supporting business-unit leaders in executing those requirements. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong leadership, business judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, multi-entity environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant license required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least five years leading accounting teams at the director level or above.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, internal controls, audit requirements, and complex accounting matters.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multi-entity accounting operations and managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Experience in real estate, hospitality, development, property management, or another complex multi-business environment strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to interpret agreements and transactions, research technical accounting matters, and communicate conclusions clearly to executive and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Track record of strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes, and implementing scalable systems and reporting solutions.
  • Strong leadership and people-development skills, with experience building, coaching, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with enterprise accounting, consolidation, and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization’s accounting function, including general ledger, consolidations, financial reporting, accounts payable, fixed assets, and related accounting operations, while providing accounting leadership and guidance to the Hospitality Directors of Finance and Retail Accounting team through close working relationships and dotted-line reporting.
  • Partner closely with the Hospitality Directors of Finance and Retail Accounting team to align close calendars, reporting standards, accounting policies, internal controls, issue resolution, financial performance, and business priorities across the portfolio.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities, establish and enforce close calendars, monitor completion and quality metrics, resolve or escalate material issues, and ensure timely reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company requirements.
  • Review and approve financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, variance analyses, and supporting schedules, focusing on material and judgmental items and ensuring accuracy, completeness, proper classification, timely resolution of exceptions, and documented evidence of review.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company requirements.
  • Lead the accounting analysis of complex transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, development activities, debt arrangements, intercompany transactions, and new business initiatives; oversee technical research, position papers, implementation guidance, and communication of conclusions to executive leadership, auditors, and affected business teams.
  • Partner with executive leadership and Finance to analyze financial results, explain material variances, identify risks and opportunities, and support informed business decisions.
  • Lead annual financial statement audits, lender reporting, tax support, and other external reporting requirements by establishing timelines, coordinating deliverables, resolving issues, and serving as the primary accounting contact for auditors, lenders, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, contractual requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal approval authorities.
  • Lead the preparation and review of management reporting packages, balance sheet analytics, cash flow information, and other financial schedules.
  • Sponsor and lead accounting systems, automation, data-governance, reporting, and process-improvement initiatives; define requirements, establish controls, oversee user acceptance and implementation, and measure improvements in close cycle time, accuracy, scalability, efficiency, and transparency.
  • Collaborate with Tax, Treasury, Legal, Development, Operations, and other functional teams to support organizational priorities and resolve accounting matters.
  • Evaluate accounting implications of new contracts, investments, projects, and transactions and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Develop, coach, and retain accounting leaders and team members; establish clear expectations, performance goals, accountability, and succession plans.
  • Manage departmental priorities, staffing, workload allocation, and service levels to meet business needs and reporting deadlines.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer service.
  • Establish and monitor accounting record-retention, documentation, and data-governance standards to ensure records are complete, organized, accessible, secure, and retained in accordance with company policy and applicable requirements.
  • Identify emerging accounting, compliance, control, and reporting risks and implement appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
