About The Position

The Senior Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic serves as a master mechanic responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and overseeing complex maintenance actions across NSW diesel, heavy equipment, and tactical vehicle fleets. This role performs the most technically demanding repairs and provides expert guidance and oversight to less experienced mechanics within the shop. The Senior Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic ensures maintenance actions meet OEM, NAVFAC, and NSW standards while supporting high equipment availability and operational readiness.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain installation access credentials
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (Valid CDL preferred)
  • Minimum 6 years as an OEM, commercial fleet, or military diesel/heavy equipment mechanic (or E7–E8 equivalent military experience)
  • Experience maintaining diesel engines over 400 HP and CESE platforms
  • Proficiency using Asset Works Fleet Focus
  • Ability to repair all tactical, expeditionary, and nontactical equipment in the shop
  • Experience providing technical oversight and mentorship
  • ASE Master Mechanic certification in Medium Heavy Trucks or Military Tactical Wheeled Vehicles (May be waived with 5 years as a depot level shop lead mechanic or supervisor)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Compliance with hazardous material, safety, and facility access procedures
  • Compliance with drugfree workforce requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing on vehicles and equipment
  • Work in motor pool, shop, and field environments
  • Exposure to noise, fuels, lubricants, exhaust, weather, and rugged terrain

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel and heavy equipment platforms
  • Repair and troubleshoot engines, drivetrains, suspension, braking, and hydraulic systems
  • Provide expert technical input on complex maintenance issues
  • Oversee and mentor junior and midlevel mechanics
  • Ensure maintenance quality and compliance with OEM and NAVFAC standards
  • Support inspections, audits, and readiness assessments
  • Operate Government vehicles during testing and repair activities
  • Document all labor, parts, and repairs in Fleet Focus
