Senior DevOps Engineer

PathAI•Boston, MA

About The Position

PathAI is hiring its first dedicated Developer Operations Engineer to own the systems that enable engineers to build, test, and release software across its products. The role covers release automation, CI/CD, build and deployment infrastructure, and developer environments for AISight, a digital pathology platform deployed in cloud and on-premises environments, as well as software supporting biopharma clinical trial services. The engineer will own a backlog and OKRs, set technical direction for software build, test, and release practices, and partner with product and integration engineering teams. Because PathAI's clinical software is regulated as a medical device, the role will design release automation that improves speed and reliability while meeting quality system requirements. This senior role has a path to growing into a team and aims to increase engineering capacity and make frequent, low-risk releases routine.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in DevOps, platform, build/release, or site reliability engineering.
  • Deep expertise designing and maintaining CI/CD systems, such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or Kargo.
  • Strong experience with containers and orchestration, such as Docker and Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider, preferably AWS, and deploying and supporting software in customer-hosted, on-premises environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python or Go.
  • Experience implementing zero-downtime deployment strategies, such as blue-green or canary releases.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar codebases and reason through operational problems in systems the candidate did not write.
  • Ability to self-direct, define a roadmap, prioritize a backlog, and communicate progress to engineering leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a regulated environment, such as FDA, IVDR, ISO 13485, or IEC 62304.
  • Experience consolidating repositories into a monorepo or standardizing build tooling across many services.
  • Background in healthcare, life sciences, or medical imaging, especially deploying into hospital IT environments with restricted or air-gapped networks.

Responsibilities

  • Own and automate the end-to-end release process for cloud and on-premises deployments, including versioning, localization, and zero-downtime blue-green cutovers.
  • Partner with quality and regulatory teams to design compliant release and rollback processes.
  • Design and maintain fast, reliable CI/CD pipelines, container image build strategies, and consistent configuration across repositories; use DORA metrics to measure and improve delivery performance.
  • Bring product lines onto a common release and infrastructure model, including zero-downtime deployments, repository consolidation, and faster pipeline feedback.
  • Standardize deployment tooling, monitoring, and observability across cloud, on-premises, production, and test environments, including packaging and upgrade paths for customer-hosted installations.
  • Build product performance metrics used for ongoing regulatory monitoring.
  • Automate release documentation required by the quality system.
  • Identify and resolve root causes of recurring operational issues and improve feedback loops between support and engineering.
  • Set long-term direction for how PathAI services are built, deployed, and operated.
