Senior DevOps Engineer, Space

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Anduril’s Space team develops AI-powered capabilities for Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command and Control, including integrated hardware and software systems for U.S. military and allied partners. The Senior DevOps Engineer will join the team in Costa Mesa, California, as a senior individual contributor and technical anchor—not a manager—supporting a live, operational Department of Defense system. The role operates, maintains, hardens, and evolves a classified networking capability delivering operational Space Domain Awareness data for the United States Space Force. The engineer owns the reliability and security posture of globally distributed infrastructure in air-gapped environments, including standing up sites, applying STIG compliance, developing infrastructure as code, and maintaining observability. The role works closely with Mission Software Engineers, Product Operations teammates, Mission Operations Engineers, and Technical Program Managers to deploy capabilities on operationally relevant timelines. The engineer also connects engineering teams with end-users at customer sites worldwide by providing documentation, training remote staff, and serving as an initial contact for issues. The position is tied to an ongoing, funded program building and fielding a resilient, software-defined, distributed mesh networking layer for critical Space Domain Awareness data.

Requirements

  • Currently hold an active U.S. Secret security clearance and be able to maintain it.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on Kubernetes experience in production environments, including deploying, scaling, debugging, and managing containerized workloads.
  • Expert-level Linux proficiency, including networking, filesystems, systemd, SELinux, and kernel tuning.
  • Proven experience applying STIGs, remediating findings, and understanding the rationale behind system-hardening controls.
  • Strong experience standing up infrastructure in air-gapped or classified environments.
  • Proficiency with Ansible, Puppet, and Terraform for building, managing, and versioning infrastructure as code at scale.
  • Strong Bash and Python scripting skills for production-grade automation, tooling, and operational scripts.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack for monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, credibility, directness, and reliability; able to align engineers and drive decisions without a management title.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including translating complex technical issues into clear, actionable language for different audiences.
  • Initiative and self-direction in isolated, secure environments.
  • Understanding of software development practices, including Git, code review, testing, and agile methodologies.
  • Enthusiasm for applying advanced technology to U.S. and allied military capabilities in space environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Military background, particularly as a veteran familiar with operational environments, the mission, and DoD culture.
  • Experience with COMSEC and HAIPE-compliant inline Type-1 network encryptors.
  • Networking certifications such as CCNA or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Space Domain Awareness data and systems.
  • Knowledge of Anduril's Lattice OS and its capabilities.
  • Proficiency in additional languages such as Go, Rust, or Java, and contributions to open-source projects.
  • An active TS/SCI clearance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical subject matter expert on a Product Operations team supporting a live operational DoD system, helping establish team standards for operations, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Stand up, harden, and maintain classified Linux-based infrastructure across globally distributed, air-gapped sites.
  • Apply and enforce STIG compliance and system-hardening standards, owning the security posture of deployed environments.
  • Build, maintain, and evolve infrastructure as code using Ansible or Puppet to automate provisioning, configuration management, and deployment pipelines.
  • Write and maintain operational tooling, automation scripts, and workflow optimizations in Bash and Python.
  • Architect and maintain observability across the stack using logging, alerting, and tracing for distributed systems.
  • Manage and operate containerized workloads in Kubernetes at scale in production classified environments.
  • Provide real-time incident response, rapid root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex issues spanning application code and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering, Mission Operations, and Technical Program Managers to validate operational readiness of deployments, features, and integrations.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of a team supporting the Space Domain Awareness mission for the United States Space Force.
  • Drive continuous improvement through proactive automation, system optimization, and process refinement, using sound judgment about when to escalate.
  • Provide clear documentation, train remote staff, and serve as a first point of contact for issues at customer sites worldwide.
