About The Position

Bitsight is seeking an experienced, adaptable Senior DevOps Engineer to join its multicultural DevOps team within Platform Engineering. The team streamlines and automates development and operations to support faster, more efficient, and reliable software delivery. Development and DevOps work together as one engineering team to deliver business value. The role serves as a technical reference and strategic leader. It operates, scales, and troubleshoots Bitsight’s SaaS cloud infrastructure, with an emphasis on reliability, efficiency, and security. The engineer will address complex system-level design challenges, anticipate performance and scalability issues, and help develop AI-enabled infrastructure automation. AI-assisted changes must be manually validated and tested in staging before production, with costs and return on investment actively managed. The Senior DevOps Engineer will also lead design discussions, advise across teams, improve team efficiency by organizing complex work into parallel streams, establish infrastructure best practices, promote strong documentation, and mentor early-stage senior engineers. The position is remote in the United States and limited to the Eastern Time Zone. Occasional off-shift availability may be needed for production issues or maintenance.

Requirements

Proven experience as a DevOps or operations engineer in a SaaS environment.
Extensive experience with Linux systems; Ubuntu, Debian, or CentOS preferred.
Experience with automation scripting, including Bash or Python.
Deep experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with major cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
Strong expertise in infrastructure-as-code principles and tools such as Terraform.
Fluency in leveraging AI tools to accelerate infrastructure delivery, and an understanding of how to safely validate, govern, and measure the return on investment of AI-assisted automation.
Strategic thinking, including understanding customer needs and using empirical data to guide decisions.
Ability to take action and be accountable when making difficult decisions.
Ability to proactively communicate project status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders.
Well-organized, team-oriented approach and excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab.
Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible.
Experience with observability, monitoring, and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, JSM, Datadog, Sumo Logic, ELK, or Groundcover.
Strong understanding of network engineering and security principles, including internet protocols, firewalls, and routing.

Responsibilities

Operate, scale, and troubleshoot Bitsight’s SaaS cloud infrastructure, focusing on reliability, efficiency, and security.
Provide occasional off-shift availability for production issues or maintenance.
Design solutions for complex system-level challenges spanning multiple components.
Anticipate localized performance and scalability issues before they arise.
Develop self-optimizing infrastructure systems and use AI to accelerate feature delivery.
Manually validate AI-assisted infrastructure automation and test it in staging before production deployment.
Manage the costs and return on investment of AI-driven systems.
Break down complex problems into optimized parallel work streams to improve team efficiency.
Propose solutions, lead design-level discussions, and provide technical advice that affects multiple teams.
Drive infrastructure best practices and advocate for high-quality documentation.
Mentor early-stage senior engineers on system design.
