About The Position

NewtonX is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to own and improve significant parts of its GCP-native infrastructure platform. The platform supports five engineering teams with different deployment patterns and reliability requirements, and includes GKE, Cloud Run, Dataflow, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Cloudflare. The role owns platform work end-to-end, from design through deployment and operation, with a focus on automating infrastructure so engineering teams become less dependent on DevOps. The engineer will improve infrastructure reliability, evolve shared CI/CD workflows, operationalize observability, establish infrastructure-as-code standards, advance event-driven autoscaling, strengthen security controls, and implement data anonymization tooling across development and staging environments. The role also partners directly with engineering teams on architecture and infrastructure decisions.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in relevant technology roles such as DevOps, Platform Engineering, or SRE.
  • At least 1 year in a Senior DevOps position, or 2 or more years as a mid-level engineer with demonstrated ownership of production systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with GCP and production Kubernetes environments, including operating them at scale.
  • Solid infrastructure-as-code knowledge and the ability to independently write, review, and refactor Terraform.
  • Strong production observability knowledge, including metrics, tracing, logging, and alerting.
  • Experience designing on-call workflows and incident runbooks.
  • Strong security knowledge, including least-privilege IAM, identity federation, secret management, and network controls.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and reusable deployment workflows.
  • Scripting proficiency for tooling and automation.

Nice To Haves

  • Architectural decision-making that significantly improved company security, scalability, and performance.
  • GitOps experience with ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Experience with Auth0 or a similar identity provider, including SAML, M2M, and JWT.
  • Database management experience, such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with ingress controllers or API gateways, such as Kong, NGINX, or Istio.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC2.

Responsibilities

  • Own GKE workloads, Cloud Run services, and the shared platform layer; identify and eliminate single points of failure.
  • Maintain and harden shared GitHub Actions workflows, including supply-chain security, end-of-life runtime upgrades, and reusable composites.
  • Build and operationalize metrics, logs, alerting, dashboards, and on-call workflows using Datadog and Prometheus.
  • Write, review, and refactor Terraform across environments, and establish infrastructure-as-code standards.
  • Improve KEDA event-driven autoscaling with application-aware custom metrics for individual workloads.
  • Harden security through least-privilege IAM, Workload Identity Federation, SOC2 evidence, Cloudflare Zero Trust, and CI/CD supply-chain controls.
  • Implement and scale data anonymization tooling across development and staging environments for safe PR deployments and data replication workflows.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and partner directly with engineering teams on infrastructure decisions.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and equity.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) match with immediate vesting.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and parental leave.
  • Flexible work environment.
  • Happy hours, team projects, and retreats.
