Senior DevOps Engineer
About The Position
The Senior DevOps Engineer will lead the design and implementation of infrastructure tooling for SAP Sovereign Cloud operations. The role works closely with product owners, architects, security engineers, and programme managers to develop, integrate, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure tooling for public-sector and regulated-industry customers. The engineer will take independent ownership of complex engineering challenges and help shape the programme’s technical direction. The role involves up to 10% travel. Sovereign Cloud is a newly established business unit within SAP Product Engineering, created to unify SAP’s Sovereign Cloud portfolio and develop a harmonised, scalable delivery model across SAP board areas. SAP also expects employees to use AI tools, including agentic AI, in day-to-day work and to support the adoption of AI practices within their teams.
Requirements
- Deep proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools, including Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong or solid knowledge of major public cloud providers: AWS, GCP, Azure, and OpenStack.
- Expertise in Kubernetes, including experience converting or containerising workloads from virtual machines.
- Experience with scripting languages and cloud automation pipelines.
- A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Willingness to undergo a governmental security clearance process.
- Comfort using AI tools, including agentic AI, to automate routine tasks and evaluate AI-generated outputs.
- Ability to take independent ownership of complex tooling and engineering challenges.
- Ability to build trust, communicate clearly, maintain a customer-centred approach, and apply emotional intelligence and problem-solving skills.
Nice To Haves
- Mastery of ML lifecycle automation, infrastructure design, and performance optimization.
- Experience evangelizing MLOps principles and coaching peers to adopt best practices.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement the infrastructure toolset required for SAP Sovereign Cloud operations.
- Lead proof-of-concept development and integrate tooling into productive environments.
- Automate cloud delivery workflows and provisioning at scale using Infrastructure as Code.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and deliver sustainable resolutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
- Collaborate with security and architecture teams to shape technical standards.
- Use AI tools, including agentic AI, in day-to-day work and support AI practices within the team.
