About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer - AWS for a project-based engagement supporting a large-scale Air Force infrastructure initiative. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and implementing secure, scalable network connectivity between AWS commercial environments and distributed on-premise access control systems deployed across more than 100 Air Force bases. You will work directly with the client’s internal technical lead to design repeatable network patterns, configure secure site-to-site connectivity, and document solutions aligned with DoD security and compliance expectations. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, comfortable working independently, and experienced building scalable cloud networking architectures in regulated or government-adjacent environments.

Requirements

  • AWS networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Site-to-Site VPN, Security Groups)
  • Network topology design (hub-and-spoke)
  • Firewall rules / port configuration
  • Security best practices for DoD/government-adjacent environments
  • Documentation skills (for RMF/ATO compliance)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with physical access control systems or IoT-adjacent hardware
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud (they're coming from there)
  • Redundancy/failover architecture experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and document a hub-and-spoke network topology (SmartNet as hub, AF bases as spokes) connecting to AWS commercial
  • Set up site-to-site VPN tunnels / secure connections for hardware panels at each facility (2 ports/connections per site)
  • Configure firewall rules and port settings for bidirectional communication between AWS and on-prem panels
  • Work side-by-side with Steven (their one internal tech resource) to build, document, and make the process repeatable
  • Produce documentation suitable for Air Force RMF (Risk Management Framework) / ATO submission
  • Build with future scalability in mind, CCTV/video management, additional servers, failover/redundancy
