About The Position

Acronis is seeking a Senior DevOps/Build System Engineer to own the build system and infrastructure for a large, complex software product. The role covers compiling and packaging interdependent components written in multiple programming languages, and assembling, signing, validating, and publishing release artifacts. The engineer will make builds fast, reproducible, and trustworthy across multiple release lines. The position owns build and release pipelines end to end, including build agents and farms, artifact repositories and caching, automated validation and regression gating, artifact promotion, signing, publishing, and rollback procedures. It also maintains buildability through toolchain and dependency upgrades, supports developers and QA with self-service builds and troubleshooting, and manages build infrastructure in coordination with IT and operations. The engineer will maintain shipment traceability through versioning, changelogs, artifact provenance, license and SBOM data, and security-scanning and audit integrations. The role also involves automating tooling and environment provisioning with Python and shell, expanding CI/CD and automated test coverage, investigating root causes of complex build failures, using AI-assisted engineering tools, documenting processes, and communicating build and release status, risks, dependencies, and critical issues to the development lead.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in build, release, or DevOps engineering for complex software products, including ownership of a build system as a whole rather than only individual CI jobs.
  • Strong CI/CD engineering experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or comparable tools; pipelines as code, build agents, and artifact repositories.
  • Solid experience with Linux software packaging and binary artifact distribution, including artifact signing and repository or channel management.
  • Ability to read, fix, and take over build definitions across multiple languages and build tools, including make, CMake, autotools, and language-native build and packaging tools.
  • Deep understanding of dependency and version management, reproducible and hermetic builds, incremental builds, and build caching.
  • Solid Python and shell scripting skills for build tooling and release automation.
  • Strong Linux systems knowledge, plus experience with containers and configuration management tools.
  • Confident use of Git and familiarity with branching and release models for products maintaining several releases simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including patience in taking over a large inherited build system with incomplete documentation.
  • Mandatory practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for development, debugging, log analysis, investigation, and technical research.
  • Ability to treat the build as a product relied on by the rest of engineering and to share technical expertise across teams.
  • Excellent English communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering updates to already installed software, including channels, staged rollout, acceptance, and rollback.
  • Experience scaling a build system through parallelism or distributed builds and reducing build times from hours to minutes.
  • Familiarity with software supply-chain practices, including signing, SBOM, dependency scanning, and vulnerability scanning.

Responsibilities

  • Own, design, and evolve the build system for a product with many interdependent components written in multiple programming languages.
  • Build and maintain end-to-end build pipelines, including isolated and reproducible builds, dependency and version management, build agents and farms, artifact repositories, and caching.
  • Monitor and improve build times, success rates, and reproducibility as the product grows.
  • Assemble and validate release packages, images, installation artifacts, and distribution repositories for multiple release lines maintained in parallel.
  • Build and operate release pipelines, including automated validation and regression gating, artifact signing and promotion, publishing, and rollback procedures.
  • Maintain product buildability through toolchain and dependency upgrades; resolve compiler, library, and dependency conflicts and keep build definitions and downstream patches maintainable.
  • Maintain traceability of shipped software through versioning, changelogs, artifact provenance, license and SBOM data, and integrations used by security scanning and audits.
  • Automate build tooling, release steps, and build-environment provisioning using Python and shell; integrate builds with source control, code review, and issue-tracking workflows.
  • Support developers and QA with self-service builds for branches and merge requests, diagnose build and packaging failures, and unblock work.
  • Extend CI/CD coverage with per-commit validation, artifact promotion between environments, and automated test suites integrated into release gating.
  • Own build infrastructure, including build hosts, builder images, artifact storage, and capacity planning, coordinating with IT and operations where infrastructure is shared.
  • Investigate complex and intermittent build failures and drive them from root cause to permanent fixes.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools for development, code and log analysis, debugging, root-cause investigation, and technical research.
  • Document build and release processes so they can be reproduced by others, and share expertise with development and QA teams.
  • Communicate build and release status, risks, dependencies, and critical issues clearly to the development lead.
