Senior Developer - Payments

Jane
CA$128,000 - CA$200,000Remote

About The Position

Hi, I'm Dan Feeny, Senior Development Manager here at Jane. I joined about a year ago after spending much of my career leading engineering teams through growth, transformation, and modernization. I've worked across fintech, SaaS, and regulated industries, and what's always mattered most to me is building strong, healthy teams that ship high quality software and have fun doing it. At Jane, I lead the Payments team. We're responsible for how clinics collect revenue through Jane, which means the work we do is deeply connected to our mission to help the helpers. If clinics can't collect payments smoothly and reliably, they can't focus on caring for their patients. A significant portion of Jane's revenue flows through our systems, so we carry both impact and responsibility in equal measure. Put simply, this is one of the most business-critical areas at Jane. We spent the first half of the year building out core payments infrastructure. Now we get to turn that foundation into real, tangible value for clinics. This half is all about the customer-facing side of payments. It's meaningful, foundational work, and there's a lot of it. I'm looking for a Senior Software Developer who leans backend but is excited to grow across the stack. Someone who understands the nuances of payments and genuinely cares about the value this work delivers to clinics. This person brings strong architecture instincts, a real bias to action, and the kind of open, energetic communication style that lifts a distributed team. If you love the details of how payments actually work and want that work to matter, you'll fit right in. You can find me on LinkedIn here.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with strong backend expertise and a solid grasp of enterprise architecture patterns.
  • Experience building and maintaining production grade systems, ideally within SaaS environments.
  • Comfort working across the stack, or a genuine desire to grow into full stack development over time.
  • A strong bias to action paired with an open, energetic, collaborative communication style. This team thrives on people who engage, connect, and share generously.
  • Enthusiasm for AI and hands-on experience using it in your work. AI software development lifecycle experience is a real plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Ruby on Rails experience is a nice-to-have rather than a requirement, but it'll help you hit the ground running.
  • Experience with payments or financial systems is a plus, and so is experience in adjacent areas like mortgage technology, property technology, or loyalty and benefit card systems. What matters most is a genuine interest in this space and how it works.
  • If you don't meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we'd still love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Build the customer-facing features that turn our payments infrastructure into real value for clinics, including IC+ pricing, surcharging, and payment automation.
  • Bring strong enterprise architecture patterns to the way we design and scale payments systems, helping us stay reliable as we grow into more complex capabilities.
  • Communicate early and often in team channels, sharing context, surfacing risks, and helping everyone stay aligned in a distributed environment. We lean toward over-communicating here, and that's on purpose.
  • Move with a bias to action, partnering closely with product to take work from idea to shipped, measurable outcomes.
  • Embrace AI tools as part of your daily workflow, and help raise the bar for how the whole team builds software. If you've worked with AI across the software development lifecycle, we'd love to learn from you.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package
