About The Position

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) powers Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and supports its online businesses and Azure platform. The Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering organization designs, develops, manufactures, and packages Microsoft computer chips, including Azure Cobalt. The Verification & Validation team helps define and deliver operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, with a focus on improving planning, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability. Microsoft is seeking a Senior Design Verification Engineer to work on Fabric Interconnect verification. The role involves integration-level verification of Fabric Top across coherency, PCIe/CXL, and configuration access traffic. The engineer will collaborate with partner IP, SOC, and VIP teams to define verification strategies and test plans; develop and run UVM/SystemVerilog verification environments; and use automation, formal methods, and generative AI to improve verification quality and efficiency. The position also includes mentoring others and demonstrating Microsoft’s core values.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 1 year of technical engineering experience; or a master's degree in one of these fields and at least 4 years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in one of these fields and at least 5 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Must provide proof of citizenship, U.S. residency, or other protected status to assess eligibility for access to export-controlled information; citizenship will be verified with a valid passport, with other applicable documents accepted for lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 3 years of technical engineering experience; or a master's degree in one of these fields and at least 6 years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in one of these fields and at least 8 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise leading verification of designs using Coherent Hub Interface (CHI) and Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) protocols.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: fabric interconnects, coherency, virtualization, security, interrupts, PCIe, CXL, and/or protocol bridges.
  • Experience driving IP verification for multiple product cycles from definition to silicon, including writing IP/block or subsystem-level test plans, developing tests, debugging failures, and coverage signoff.
  • Hands-on technical leadership experience, such as creating bottom-up schedules, coordinating work across a team, driving verification closure, or solving cross-team technical problems.
  • Experience creating, maintaining, or integrating test benches, checkers, and stimulus using UVM, System Verilog Test Bench (SVTB), and optionally Python-based post-processing checking.
  • Aptitude for writing scripts or software with industry-standard languages such as Python.
  • Experience applying generative AI to day-to-day tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Own or lead aspects of integration-level verification of Fabric Top, including coherency (such as CHI), PCIe/CXL traffic, and configuration access traffic.
  • Learn about the design and interact with partner IP, SOC, and VIP teams to define verification strategies and test plans.
  • Develop UVM/SystemVerilog-based verification environments at the integration level, and run and debug simulations to drive quality.
  • Leverage automation, formal-based methods, and AI-based approaches as additional tools in the verification toolkit.
  • Innovate to improve verification efficiency through methodologies or tools.
  • Apply industry-leading generative AI solutions to verification work.
