About The Position

The Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, Architecture and Engineering Unit seeks to hire a Senior Design Reviewer. Reporting to and under the supervision of the Executive Director and Deputy Directors of Architecture, the selected candidate shall participate in project scope development, existing conditions and forensic analysis, the review of design and construction documents prepared by consultants, as well as creation of design documents and construction administration for in-house design projects. The selected candidate must be thoroughly knowledgeable in Landscape Architecture principles and practices including grading and site drainage, city and state guidelines and requirements, as well as general design principles, industry best practices, building codes, project delivery methodologies, and the latest technologies and innovations in the field. The selected candidate will interface with clients, consultants, contractors, project managers, and other technical staff.

Requirements

  • Permanent in the Administrative Construction Project Manager title or reachable on the DDC promotional list (exam #3523), or the open-competitive list (exam #3039)
  • Thorough knowledge of Landscape Architecture principles and practices including grading and site drainage
  • Knowledge of city and state guidelines and requirements
  • Knowledge of general design principles
  • Knowledge of industry best practices
  • Knowledge of building codes
  • Knowledge of project delivery methodologies
  • Knowledge of the latest technologies and innovations in the field
  • At least six years of full-time satisfactory experience in construction management work on capital projects, each with a dollar value of at least $15,000
  • At least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial or consultative capacity in an organization responsible for the management of construction
  • Combination of education and experience totaling ten years, including: a. Full-time satisfactory experience in construction inspection on capital projects (each with a dollar value of at least $15,000), credited up to four years. b. Full-time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one or more of the skilled building construction trades, credited up to four years. c. Education in an accredited college leading to a bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or air pollution control, chemical, civil including structural and bridge design, electrical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering, credited on the basis of 30 credits for one year of acceptable experience up to a maximum of four years.
  • Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.)
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution

Nice To Haves

  • A New York State license as a professional engineer or registered architect or a license as a professional engineer or registered architect from a state that has reciprocity with New York State may be substituted for the four years of education and experience described in 'a', 'b' and 'c' above.
