About The Position

The Senior Design Engineer will work on Click UI, ClickHouse’s open-source design system and shared UI foundation for ClickHouse Cloud and other projects. The Design System team operates Click UI as a service and as the entry point for ClickHouse UI work, building accessible, performant, well-documented, token-driven React components that address complex product requirements. The role focuses on the design system’s components, APIs, infrastructure, adoption, and AI-assisted development. The engineer will collaborate with product teams and contribute to a distributed company culture.

Requirements

  • Experience building or maintaining a production design system used by multiple teams, including managing migrations and breaking changes.
  • Deep knowledge of React, TypeScript, semantic HTML, and CSS architecture at scale, including SASS, CSS Modules, CSS variables, or CSS-in-JS.
  • Experience designing component APIs, including atomic design, composition, controlled and uncontrolled components, and polymorphic patterns.
  • Experience with headless primitives such as React Aria, Ark UI, or Radix.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.x and WAI-ARIA.
  • Ability to implement and test keyboard navigation, focus management, and screen-reader behavior.
  • Experience with design-token architecture and tools such as Style Dictionary, Terrazzo, DTCG, or equivalent, and Figma variables sync.
  • Ability to write clear documentation, review library consistency, and mentor through code review.
  • Fluency in Figma and experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.

  • Enhance the component library with consistent, intuitive APIs and improved developer experience.
  • Enable complex migrations using codemods and semantic versioning.
  • Maintain shared design system infrastructure, including Storybook, unit tests, interaction and end-to-end tests, visual regression tests, accessibility gates, and the release process.
  • Drive adoption through documentation, usage guidelines, migration guides, issue intake and triage, including open-source issues, and code review with product teams.
  • Build AI-assisted workflows such as Figma-to-code and component scaffolding, with guardrails for token use, design patterns, and accessibility.
  • Write clear documentation, review library-wide consistency, and mentor through code review.
