About The Position

Agile Decision Sciences is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support the RSCCE system for the CECOM Army Software Innovation Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground. RSCCE is a long-lived, mission-critical system running on legacy Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) VAX/OpenVMS platforms. The engineer will own the design, integrity, and performance of the RSCCE data layer and serve as a senior software lead on the RSCCE team alongside the Cyber Engineer and Front End GUI Engineer. The role includes designing, developing, maintaining, and tuning databases; working with users and the Government project lead to define requirements; building database interfaces and automated test tools; supporting system engineering tradeoff analysis and potential modernization or migration; and performing database troubleshooting, maintenance, migration, backup, recovery, and server replacement work. The engineer will implement changes through the RFC and CECOM SEC Change Advisory Board (CAB) process, support testing and integration, document designs, prepare project deliverables, and provide technical leadership to other RSCCE engineers. Work is onsite at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, in a secure Government lab. Occasional CONUS travel may be required. The position requires working with classified information and following AT/INFOSEC/OPSEC requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting satellite control, SATCOM, or other real-time command-and-control systems.
  • Familiarity with RMF, eMASS, and DISA database STIGs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and tune RSCCE databases to keep data accurate, available, and performant.
  • Formulate and analyze software and data requirements with system users and the Government project lead.
  • Create scalable, maintainable, and extensible database structures for future data needs.
  • Assist System Engineers with tradeoff analysis of technologies and approaches, including options to modernize or migrate legacy data stores.
  • Develop interfaces between the database, application services, and operator GUI, along with test tools that maximize automation.
  • Analyze, test, troubleshoot, patch, and install database software; resolve defects and identify root causes.
  • Plan and perform data migration, backup and recovery, and server replacement activities.
