The Senior Database Administrator manages ongoing administration of the program’s on-premises database environment, which operates in a monitored hybrid enclave while workloads are migrated to Azure Government. The environment includes production SQL Server databases managed through SQL Server Management Studio and MariaDB databases supporting the on-premises ServiceNow instance, hosted on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.8 servers and administered over SSH using Linux command-line tools. The primary focus is on-premises database administration. Additional qualifications apply to candidates who support the Azure Government cloud migration. The role administers SQL Server databases, including backup and recovery, restore verification, performance tuning, index and statistics maintenance, permissions and security, capacity and health monitoring, and patch coordination through program change control. It also administers MariaDB databases, including service health monitoring, logical and physical backups, user and grant management, configuration reviews, and log analysis. The administrator maintains inventories and documentation, follows change management procedures, documents actions, supports incident response, participates in an on-call rotation if applicable, and maintains legacy environments through decommissioning, final backups, and archival as systems are retired or migrated. If the role includes cloud migration support, the administrator may also support database migration to Azure Government, particularly Azure SQL Managed Instance. This scope includes migration assessment and execution, schema and compatibility remediation, DevSecOps processes, database lifecycle and disposition planning, inventories, and data retention and handling requirements.
