About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join their team as a Database Administrator Senior (Senior Database Administrator). This role is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of information databases used to operate IT applications and systems, including SQL Server, Azure Databases, Azure Managed Instances and Azure pipelines, along with various physical data models, technical architecture, and system interfaces. The position involves partnering and collaborating with other application teams and infrastructure operations to ensure database performance standards meet agency-set service level agreements. This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona, depending on department needs and consistent performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, database querying and management tools.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery best practices.
  • Knowledge of query tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of SQL based query languages, applicable IT systems and applications.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of databases.
  • Proficient with Relational Databases Management System (RDBMS) (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server, etc.).
  • Proficient in Google Suite products, MS Office and similar like programs (e.g. Linux, Windows, etc.).
  • Proficient in installing and supporting Very Large Database (VLDB) systems.
  • Skill in leadership, critical thinking, customer centric approach.

Responsibilities

  • Partners and collaborates with development teams to design, configure, implement, and administer all data management and governance protocols.
  • Develops and manages the information life-cycle, designs infrastructure and data integration controls.
  • Installs, monitors, proactively solves problems and directs proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and reliability of database systems.
  • Meets performance standards in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams, and documents the process.
  • Implements and reviews appropriate security guidelines/mechanisms.
  • Utilizes business strategy and cascades business intelligence needs to the database level.
  • Analyzes and reports performance of database operations against key database performance metrics.
  • Develops and tests database migration procedures and performs database migrations.
  • Designs, configures, implements, and administers all databases for the respective parties involved.
  • Develops database administration tools/utilities/operation procedures.
  • Builds and manages the database disaster recovery and backup plan.
  • Performs database maintenance functions.
  • Moves, rebuilds, or changes database objects as required in production.
  • Identifies opportunities for use of solutions to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Mentors and coaches others performing similar job responsibilities while maintaining and enforcing departmental data standards.
