About The Position

Proactively ensures the most complex production database platform is performing at the highest level and functioning within the platform; solving the most complex issues; translating user's needs within business requirements into scalable, cost-effective database solutions utilizing on-premise and cloud-native services. Implements and maintains advanced monitoring and alerting systems to predict and prevent potential issues. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Across our many agencies, boards, and commissions, many State employees participate in the State’s Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes, in offices, and in hoteling spaces. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Requirements

  • Physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc.
  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Install and support relational database management systems (RDMS).
  • Evaluate and test emerging technologies.
  • Apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effectively met.
  • Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 or more years of experience in database administration (or equivalent experience)

Responsibilities

  • Proactively ensure the continuous health, stability, and performance of the production database platform.
  • Implement and maintain advanced monitoring and alerting systems to predict and prevent issues before they impact users.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, cost-effective database solutions using on-prem and cloud-native services.
  • Proactively engineer solutions for performance bottlenecks and resource consumption.
  • Implement security through automated, repeatable processes meeting strict regulatory and ADOT IT compliance.
  • Perform testing & continuous integration of database migrations.
  • Ensure all data assets are governed using metadata, data models and documentation.
