Senior Data Scientist

Trane Italia•Davidson, NC

About The Position

Trane Technologies is seeking a highly resourceful Senior Data Scientist to join its team. The role focuses on identifying opportunities in systems and processes, applying existing and emerging technologies, and delivering effective work even when data is limited. The employee works independently with minimal supervision as part of a larger team, collaborates on work reviews, and provides feedback on others’ work. The position calls for a proactive approach to identifying projects, preparing workflows, and executing them, along with strong communication with clients and colleagues. The Senior Data Scientist designs and deploys autonomous LLM-powered agents and connectors for building energy modeling (BEM) and HVAC simulation tools. The role translates complex simulation tasks into executable agentic workflows and tool-calling routines; develops data pipelines, preprocessing, and verification and validation tools; and communicates project scope and progress through reports, visualizations, and application documentation. The position requires 10–20% travel. The role is based on a hybrid work arrangement: onsite Monday through Thursday, with the employee choosing their work location on Fridays according to work needs. The annual base salary range is $148,991.66–$189,800.00, and the role is incentive eligible.

  • Familiarity with Docker containers, React, Next.js, and Flask.
  • Experience in rapid application development and deployment through GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy autonomous LLM-powered agents and connectors that interface with building energy modeling (BEM) and HVAC simulation tools.
  • Translate multi-step simulation tasks—including geometry intake, thermal load calculations, equipment sizing, schedule definitions, and parametric runs—into executable agentic workflows and tool-calling routines.
  • Prepare detailed project workflows and execute them efficiently.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, submit work for review, and provide constructive feedback on others’ work.
  • Generate ETL pipelines, preprocess datasets, and develop verification and validation tools.
  • Work with datasets from multiple sources and formats.
  • Prepare reports and visualizations to communicate project scopes and progress.
  • Prepare detailed application documentation.
  • Use generative AI models and manipulate them through API calls in code.

Benefits

  • Health insurance and holistic wellness programs, including incentives, available from day one for the employee and family.
  • Fertility coverage and adoption/surrogacy assistance.
  • Up to 15 vacation days, paid holidays, sick leave, and additional options supporting volunteer and parental leave.
  • 401(k) match.
