About The Position

Tilt is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its Methodologies group and advance foundational modeling approaches for its financial products. The role focuses on building and testing deep learning methods, including transformers, to better understand financial data and inform lending decisions. The position involves working with a small, experienced team of data scientists and engineers on financial data challenges spanning credit decisioning and customer behavior, from initial ideas through working models. The Senior Data Scientist will contribute to Tilt's approach to data science in the age of AI agents, using agentic development tools and building specialized agents that support data science and business workflows. The role calls for curiosity, experimentation, collaboration, and the ability to connect technical research with business impact and fairer access to credit.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building and training deep learning models.
  • Comfort working with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
  • Experience applying machine learning to real-world problems; financial services experience in credit, lending, payments, or banking is preferred.
  • Experience taking a project from an open question to a measurable business outcome.
  • Clear, thoughtful communication skills, including the ability to explain technical ideas so others can engage with them.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience building with large language models or agent frameworks, or enthusiasm to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Build, train, and evaluate deep learning models on Tilt's financial data.
  • Ship models and model components that integrate with Tilt's existing machine learning pipelines to improve credit modeling and loss prediction.
  • Own projects end to end, from hypothesis to a model in use, with general direction from team leads.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product partners to turn results into practical solutions.
  • Run representation learning experiments, including pretraining and fine-tuning, on real financial data, with clear experimental designs and honest evaluation of results.
  • Share findings and help peers learn new deep learning methods.
  • Measure model impact by how models improve outcomes for Tilt's customers and partners, as well as by accuracy.
  • Use agentic development tools such as Claude Code and Codex to accelerate experimentation, feature engineering, and model iteration.
  • Build and improve specialized agents that support data science workflows.

Benefits

  • Work-from-home office reimbursement.
  • Competitive compensation packages and generous equity.
  • Flexible health plans at every premium level, with substantial subsidies.
  • Direct exposure to the leadership team.
  • Paid global onsite gatherings twice yearly.
  • Growth opportunities based on contributions rather than rigid promotion timelines.
