Senior Data Scientist

Spin Master LtdToronto, ON
CA$100,000 - CA$115,000Hybrid

About The Position

We're building a world-class subscription business that delights kids and earns the trust of parents — and we need someone who owns the commercial math behind it. You'll be the analytical link between raw data and business growth: not just reporting what the KPIs say but explaining why they moved and what to do next. When M1 retention dips or subscriber activations spike, you'll know whether to reach for a cohort breakdown, a segmentation model, or a conversation with the product analyst who owns that surface — and you'll know which one actually answers the question.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics or data science, growth analytics, ideally in a B2C subscription, mobile app, or consumer product business
  • The insight to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured, hypothesis-driven, data-supported way
  • The determination to initiate and lead/own strategic projects to completion with a cross-functional team
  • Experience working with experimentation techniques (A/B testing, hypothesis testing) and interpreting results
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python)
  • Expertise with SQL queries
  • Experience developing and using business intelligence tools, such as Preset, Tableau, and Looker
  • Experience building and training statistical and machine learning models (classifiers, regression models...)
  • Experience working with user segmentation, cohort analyses, time series analyses
  • Experience with Apple Store and Google Play data

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to causal inference methods (e.g., diff-in-diff, propensity matching) a plus, not required

Responsibilities

  • Be a first-class thought partner to our product, business, finance and executives and help them make decisions on what's next for Piknik
  • Build full-cycle analytics experiments, reports, and dashboards using SQL, Python and statistical tools
  • Build scalable, reusable data products — self-serve dashboards, forecasting tools, segmentation pipelines — that outlive a single request, rather than one-off analyses
  • Identify and measure levers to help move essential metrics, and produce recommendations grounded in statistical rigor and hypothesis testing
  • Provide insights to enable our cross-functional team to understand industry dynamics, subscriber dynamics, and long-term trends
  • Work backwards from understanding and sizing problems to ideating solutions
  • Report against our goals by identifying essential metrics and building executive-facing dashboards to track progress
  • Possess excellent stakeholder management skills, know how to effectively collaborate well with product, marketing, finance and data engineering to set priorities
