Senior Data Scientist- Travel Tech

Hopper•Washington, DC
•$160,000 - $210,000•Remote

About The Position

Hopper Technology Solutions (HTS) powers travel for major brands through APIs, white-label products, and fintech. The Senior Data Scientist will own the analytical relationship with a portfolio of HTS partners and build repeatable analytical and reporting capabilities that help partners and Hopper teams make better decisions about supply health, pricing competitiveness, and performance. The role emphasizes clear, useful analysis and trusted communication over model sophistication alone. The position works closely with Partner Success, Commercial, Product, and Engineering teams. It involves designing scalable reporting across travel categories, conducting exploratory analysis, applying statistical and machine-learning methods where appropriate, and building dashboards and self-service reporting. The role also uses AI assistants, agents, and code-generation tools to automate recurring analysis and reporting and help the broader team adopt these practices.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extremely strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of answering complex questions with data across more than one domain or product line.
  • Ability to turn complex technical work into clear, credible narratives for non-technical and executive audiences, including external partners.
  • Comfort presenting findings to partners, fielding difficult questions live, and building trust with commercial counterparts.
  • Deep SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as BigQuery.
  • Fluency in Python and Pandas or R for large-scale data preparation and analysis.
  • Hands-on daily use of LLM-based tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Copilot for coding, SQL, analysis, and documentation, with an informed perspective on their strengths and limitations.
  • Experience building or deploying automated and agentic workflows, from scheduled pipelines to LLM-driven report generation and prompt or skill libraries.
  • Experience with data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling, and sound judgment about when to use them.
  • Experience with business reporting and experimentation tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Amplitude.
  • A strong bias toward simplifying, templatizing, and shipping over polishing.

Nice To Haves

  • Travel industry experience in lodging, air, vacation rentals, or car rental, or experience in a marketplace, B2B platform, or API distribution business.
  • Experience with geographic data in search, filtering, or recommendation.
  • Experience working with external customers in consulting, solutions, or customer analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Own the analytical relationship with a portfolio of HTS partners, working with Partner Success and Commercial to understand partner needs, deliver analysis, and present findings directly to partner teams.
  • Design and templatize repeatable reporting on supply health, pricing competitiveness, and tenant performance across hotels, flights, homes, and cars.
  • Use AI assistants, agents, and code-generation tools to automate repetitive analysis and reporting, and help the broader team adopt these practices.
  • Frame and conduct exploratory analyses of partner and traveler behavior, translating findings into clear recommendations for product, engineering, and business leaders.
  • Apply machine-learning and statistical methods to large datasets when useful, and identify when a simpler, well-explained metric is more appropriate.
  • Build dashboards and self-service reporting using BigQuery, Looker, Tableau, Amplitude, and Google Sheets.
  • Work with Product and Engineering to ensure collected data supports future partner questions.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and pre-IPO equity packages.
  • Unlimited PTO.
