About The Position

Red Alpha is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join their team. The Data Science practice at Red Alpha grew out of their reputation in Software and System Engineering with Department of Defense clients. In this role, you will work directly with intel analysts to develop prototypes and novel solutions for pattern-of-life analysis on very large datasets. The team takes a pragmatic approach to Data Science, defining it as the intersection of technical expertise, business acumen, and soft skills to solve business problems with data. They prioritize understanding the problem before building a solution and prefer practical, useful solutions over complex algorithms. They are looking for individuals with a knack for analyzing data to make sense of it, regardless of their specific background (Data Scientist, Applied Research Mathematician, Database Engineer, Full Stack Developer, etc.).

Requirements

  • Proficiency with a scripting language such as R or Python.
  • Experience with data science techniques and algorithms such as classification, clustering, random forests, hierarchical modeling, deep learning, Markov Chain Monte Carlo, and others.
  • Comfortable and capable with several data science techniques and know some others not listed.
  • A TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.
  • A B.S. Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR an A.A. Degree with 2 additional years of experience.
  • At least 10+ years of experience on Data Science projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing teams.
  • Large dataset experience.
  • Strong familiarity with data science applications such as association analysis, graph/network analytics, clustering, text analytics, classification and regression (multivariate and logistic).
  • Training in the design and implementation of static and dynamic visualizations in R, Python, Tableau, or similar visualization software.
  • Experience with Apache Spark (Pyspark is heavily preferred).
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic Linux command line familiarity.
  • Experience with Pandas Data Science Python Package.

Nice To Haves

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Experience or exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Experience with Java, C, or other compiled languages.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL, Spark, Hadoop.
  • Familiarity with Javascript and Scripting.
  • Familiarity with Docker, GitLab, and React.
