About The Position

Red Alpha is seeking a Senior Data Scientist with a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance. The Data Science practice at Red Alpha grew out of the company's reputation in Software and System Engineering with Department of Defense clients. This role involves working directly with intel analysts to develop prototypes and novel solutions for pattern-of-life analysis on very large datasets. The team takes a pragmatic approach to Data Science, focusing on the intersection of technical expertise, business acumen, and soft skills to solve business problems with data. They prioritize understanding the problem before building a solution and prefer practical, lower-tech solutions over complex algorithms. The team values diverse skills and welcomes individuals with backgrounds in Data Science, Applied Research Mathematics, Database Engineering, or Full Stack Development, as long as they have a knack for data analysis.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with a scripting language such as R or Python.
  • Experience with data science techniques and algorithms such as classification, clustering, hierarchical modeling, deep learning, Markov Chain Monte Carlo, and others.
  • A TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.
  • A B.S. Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR an A.A. Degree with 2 additional years of experience.
  • At least 10+ years of experience on Data Science projects with at least 3 years of experience managing teams.
  • Large dataset experience.
  • Strong familiarity with data science applications such as association analysis, graph/network analytics, clustering, text analytics, classification and regression (multivariate and logistic).
  • Training in the design and implementation of static and dynamic visualizations in R, Python, Tableau, or similar visualization software.
  • Experience with Apache Spark (Pyspark is heavily preferred).
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic Linux command line familiarity.
  • Experience with Pandas Data Science Python Package.
  • Data science and machine learning skills that deal with human behavior (social network analysis).
  • Basic knowledge of statistics.
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning techniques for classification and clustering.
  • Comfortability working with very very large data sets (think billions of roles) which can't be easily visualized.

Nice To Haves

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Experience or exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Experience with Java, C, or other compiled languages.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL, Spark, Hadoop.
  • Familiarity with Javascript and Scripting.
  • Familiarity with Docker, GitLab, and React.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with intel analysts to develop prototypes and novel solutions needed for pattern-of-life analysis on very large data sets.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to examine datasets and find patterns and relationships.
  • Give periodic presentations.
