About The Position

Newton Research is a fast-growing software start-up founded by repeat entrepreneurs and well-funded by blue chip venture capital firms. We are building the next generation of the closed loop media lifecycle, developing AI agents that leverage the latest in LLMs and generative AI with specialized knowledge. Our products generate actionable business insights for our customers and partners, assisting in each step of the media planning, buying and measurement lifecycle. This is a full-time Senior Data Scientist role with Newton Research, Inc., working from our offices in Needham, MA (hybrid, in office 2-3 days per week). You will develop production-level models and algorithms, analyze data, design experiments, and interpret results. More importantly, you will work with engineering to encode those abilities into software and train Newton to think like a data scientist. The data science team is small, so your work reaches customers quickly and your judgment shapes the product. We value self-motivated individuals who collaborate well across teams and can present and defend findings to stakeholders. At this level you take ownership of ambiguous, open-ended problems, scoping them yourself and deciding how they should be answered.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience in data science or applied statistics
• Deep working knowledge of statistical modeling, causal inference and machine learning, and the judgment to know which one a problem calls for
• Ability to evaluate a model, a causal experiment, or an AI-generated analysis and identify what it measures, where it fails, and how to verify it
• Proficiency in Python, including data science libraries like pandas and scikit-learn, and writing code that ships to production
• Strong SQL and experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift
• Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience in media, marketing, advertising, or related industries

Responsibilities

• Build production-level models and algorithms for media planning, audience, measurement and yield problems
• Design and interpret experiments, including deciding what a result does and does not support
• Own problems end to end, from scoping the question to defending the answer to customers
• Work with engineering to encode your judgment into Newton's agents
• Build the evals and benchmarks that tell us whether an agent's analysis is correct, not just plausible, and set the methods the team uses as it grows
