Once the foundation is stable, the role is expected to grow into ownership of the strategy for how data appears in the consumer experience and to help shape data-driven product features and the roadmap.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in product analytics, data analytics, or a similar role, ideally at a consumer app or early-stage company.
  • Experience building a metrics framework or data function from scratch or nearly from scratch.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Comfort using at least one BI or dashboarding tool.
  • Understanding of event-based product analytics, including tracking plans, funnels, cohorts, and retention.
  • Experience evaluating and rolling out data tools, with an ability to weigh costs against a small team’s practical needs.
  • Ability to explain data and findings to engineers, marketers, and executives, adapting communication to each audience.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and creating specifications independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Google Analytics and PostHog.
  • Experience in FinTech, personal finance, or subscription apps.
  • Some Python or R experience for deeper analysis.
  • Experience running or analyzing A/B tests.
  • Interest in owning product strategy in the future, beyond reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Audit existing data, including what is tracked, where it is stored, and whether it is trustworthy.
  • Identify missing event tracking, unowned metrics, and inconsistencies across tools.
  • Create a data plan covering priorities, sequencing, and implementation needs.
  • Evaluate data vendors and recommend analytics, warehousing, business intelligence, or other tools as needed.
  • Define core product operating metrics such as activation, retention, engagement, and conversion, and align stakeholders on their definitions.
  • Build dashboards for product, engineering, leadership, and product marketing audiences.
  • Work with engineering on event tracking and instrumentation to ensure data is captured correctly.
  • Establish data quality practices and documentation.
  • Turn business questions into analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Help product teams size opportunities and measure shipped work.
  • Enable self-serve data access where appropriate.
  • Own the strategy for how data appears in the Dollarwise consumer experience once the data foundation is stable.
  • Partner with product and engineering on data-driven features for Dollarwise members.
  • Help shape the product roadmap from a data perspective.
