About The Position

Become a part of our caring community As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a core builder within the Integration & Interoperability Center of Excellence (COE), working closely with Principal Engineers to design and implement scalable data pipelines that power real-time healthcare data exchange, EMR integration, and value-based care insights. This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on building and operating production-grade data systems that support claims, clinical, pharmacy, and provider data at scale. How This Role Differs You are the builder and implementer, not just the designer You will work directly under Principal Engineers to execute architecture vision You will own end-to-end pipelines and services in production You will focus on real-time integration, data quality, and reliability across healthcare data flows

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in data engineering or backend data systems
  • Strong experience in healthcare data environments (payer or provider)
  • Hands-on experience with: Data pipelines (batch + streaming)
  • SQL + Python/Scala/Java
  • Experience working with: Claims, clinical, pharmacy, or EMR data
  • Familiarity with: HL7, FHIR, CCDA, ADT feeds (preferred but not mandatory deep expertise)

Responsibilities

  • Build Scalable Healthcare Data Pipelines: Develop and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines across: Claims (837/835), Eligibility (834) Clinical data from EMRs (Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth) Pharmacy (PBM), labs, ADT feeds, and HIE data. Build high-throughput ingestion frameworks using modern distributed systems. Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness across all feeds.
  • Implement Interoperability Solutions: Build and support integrations using: FHIR R4 APIs, HL7v2 interfaces, CCDA documents. Event-driven data exchange patterns (Kafka, streaming services). Support bidirectional data exchange between payer systems and provider EMRs. Work on real-world interoperability challenges (mapping, transformation, normalization).
  • Enable Point-of-Care Data Delivery: Support delivery of insights into EMRs including: Care gaps (HEDIS) Risk adjustment signals (HCC opportunities) Utilization alerts (ADT-driven notifications). Build APIs and services that surface data within clinical workflows.
  • Data Quality, Reliability & Observability: Implement monitoring for: Data freshness, completeness, and accuracy. Pipeline failures and latency issues. Build reusable data validation frameworks across ingestion pipelines. Participate in root cause analysis and production support.
  • Cloud-Native Engineering: Build and deploy solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Use modern data tools such as: Spark, Kafka, Databricks, Airflow. Contribute to scalable, secure, and HIPAA-compliant architectures.
  • Collaboration in COE Model: Work closely with Principal Data Engineers and Architects. Translate architectural designs into production-ready systems. Partner with QA, DevOps, and analytics teams to operationalize data products. Use your skills to make an impact.

Benefits

  • medical, dental and vision benefits
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • time off (including paid time off, company and personal holidays, volunteer time off, paid parental and caregiver leave)
