Senior Data Engineer

AWC, Inc.•Jacksonville, FL

About The Position

The Senior Data Engineer will build and help own AWC’s enterprise analytical data foundation for reporting, applications, and AI tools. The role will shape the Snowflake platform’s architecture, environments, standards, and engineering patterns in collaboration with the Software Architect. It will establish reliable ingestion pipelines, governed business models, consistent metric definitions, and semantic structures that provide trusted data to consumers. The role is part of an early-stage foundation effort: models, standards, and patterns are still being established, with direct support from the Software Architect. AWC is preparing for a future ERP transition, so the engineer will help create stable business models and analytical contracts that can accommodate changes in source systems while preserving trusted reporting and analytics. The position is intended for someone within reasonable commuting distance of an AWC office in Houston, Austin, or Dallas, Texas; Baton Rouge or New Orleans, Louisiana; Atlanta, Georgia; or Jacksonville, Florida. The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Experience building analytical data platforms end to end, including making architecture and modeling decisions.
  • Strong analytical data modeling knowledge, including grain, dimensional design, slowly changing dimensions and history, late-arriving data, incremental loading, and related tradeoffs.
  • Experience designing analytical models that remain stable as source systems change, including ERP migrations, source-to-target mapping, schema evolution, data contracts, or equivalent transformation work.
  • Strong SQL skills, experience with a modern transformation framework, and experience with at least one cloud data platform.
  • Practical experience with reliable incremental loading and idempotent data pipelines.
  • A track record of reconciling analytical models to financial or operational systems of record and explaining the results to the owners of those numbers.
  • Experience with automated data quality testing and treating correctness as a release gate.
  • Ability to work with controllers or business leaders to define and document business measures.
  • Comfort designing governed data access for BI, APIs, and AI consumers, including permission-aware and auditable access.
  • Understanding of semantic-layer and BI design, and ability to keep shared business logic in governed models rather than recreating it in dashboards.

Nice To Haves

  • Snowflake experience is directly relevant; experience with an equivalent cloud data platform also counts.

Responsibilities

  • Shape Snowflake data engineering architecture, environments, standards, and reusable patterns with the Software Architect.
  • Build reliable, repeatable pipelines that ingest operational data using appropriate full, incremental, or change-data patterns, with lineage and auditability.
  • Develop canonical and dimensional models for core business areas and reconcile them to systems of record before making them available to consumers.
  • Help define source-to-target mappings and stable analytical contracts so legacy and future ERP data support consistent business concepts.
  • Work with Finance and business owners to define measures and encode those definitions consistently and testably.
  • Provide governed models and semantic structures for Power BI, internal applications, and AI tools, keeping reusable business logic upstream of individual consumers.
  • Establish and document standards for modeling, pipelines, testing, deployment, lineage, access, and documentation.
  • Support trusted reporting and analytics through future changes to operational systems and an ERP transition.

Benefits

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • 401(K) match
  • Competitive pay
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance package
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • Paid time off and holiday pay
