Senior Data Engineer
About The Position
SurveyMonkey is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and maintain data models, transformations, and pipelines. The role involves developing performant, idempotent Snowflake transformations and Python pipelines, and producing well-tested, production-ready Python and Snowflake SQL code. The engineer will translate business requirements into technical specifications and project scope, deliver deployable code, and write complex Snowflake SQL jobs across the company’s datasets. Responsibilities also include documenting systems, monitoring and debugging Airflow pipelines, participating in code reviews, and mentoring data engineers on best practices and coding standards. Telecommuting is permitted; the job site is listed as San Mateo, California, and various unanticipated worksites throughout the United States. The position is 40 hours per week.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience implementing ETL or ELT best practices.
- Experience writing Python and Snowflake SQL code, including data transformations and pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Build data models, including fact and dimension models.
- Write performant, idempotent transformations in Snowflake.
- Build data pipelines using Python scripts in a modular/loop context.
- Write well-tested, production-ready code in Python and Snowflake SQL.
- Implement ETL or ELT best practices.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, define project scope, and deliver deployable code.
- Write complex Snowflake SQL jobs that perform sophisticated queries across the datasets.
- Document systems for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and debug data pipelines running on Airflow.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Mentor data engineers on best practices and coding standards.
