About The Position

Pax8 is hiring a Sr. Data Engineer II in the United States to help shape the future of our AI-powered cloud marketplace by defining the data engineering standards, platforms, and architectures that enable scalable business intelligence and innovation. This is more than a senior engineering role. It's an opportunity to become a technical authority who influences how data engineering is practiced across the business. You'll own critical platform decisions, establish engineering patterns others follow, and help accelerate how teams use AI to build reliable, scalable, and intelligent data solutions. Requirements

  • Extensive expertise in SQL, Python, and modern data engineering practices
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex data platforms and mission-critical engineering initiatives
  • Strong systems thinking with a passion for solving root causes rather than recurring symptoms
  • Proven ability to define technical direction and influence engineering decisions across multiple teams
  • Significant experience designing distributed data processing solutions, data pipelines, and large-scale analytical platforms
  • Deep understanding of data orchestration, streaming technologies, and cloud-native data architectures
  • Expertise working with modern analytical databases and large-scale data infrastructure
  • Strong judgement when leveraging AI tools to improve engineering productivity while maintaining quality and governance standards
  • Confidence mentoring engineers and developing technical capability across teams
  • Experience creating engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices adopted at scale
  • Knowledge of data governance, cataloging, access controls, and organizational data management
  • An ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a variety of stakeholders
  • A growth mindset and passion for continuous learning in an AI-driven technology landscape
  • Must hold valid right to work in United States

Responsibilities

  • Creating architectural standards and technical frameworks that guide multiple engineering teams
  • Establishing best-in-class observability practices including lineage tracking, monitoring, data quality controls, and service reliability standards
  • Leading technical reviews and shaping architectural decisions through engineering documentation, design reviews, and strategic guidance
  • Identifying systemic opportunities for automation, platform improvement, and engineering efficiency
  • Coaching and mentoring engineers on modern data engineering techniques, system design, and AI-assisted development practices
  • Collaborating with product, analytics, and data science stakeholders to translate business challenges into scalable data solutions
  • Defining and monitoring engineering quality metrics that improve reliability, deployment confidence, and operational excellence
  • Driving adoption of modern AI engineering practices that increase productivity while maintaining quality and governance standards
  • Championing platform improvements that eliminate recurring data challenges rather than repeatedly fixing individual symptoms
  • Influencing engineering strategy across teams through technical leadership and domain expertise
