Senior Backend Engineer II - Data

Prenuvo
•$165,000 - $180,000

About The Position

At Prenuvo, we are on a mission to flip the paradigm from reactive “sick-care” to proactive health care. Our award-winning whole body scan is fast (under 1 hour), safe (MRI has no ionizing radiation), and non-invasive (no contrast). Our unique integrated stack of optimized hardware, software, and increasingly AI, coupled with the patient-centric experience across our domestic and global clinics, have allowed us to lead the change against “we caught it too late again". We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer II - Data to design, build, and maintain the data foundation that powers our clinical products and workflows. This is a software engineering role at its core. You will play a key role in building and evolving our Medical Data Server, working alongside the existing Medical Data Platform team across its Python services, APIs, database architecture, and production operations. You will also apply industry best practices to design the data models, integrations, and pipelines that make complex clinical information reliable and accessible across Prenuvo products. You will work with complex healthcare data, including FHIR and HL7, to build reliable data models, integrations, and pipelines. Your work will make clinical information accessible and trustworthy across clinical applications, reporting, analytics, and AI-enabled workflows. This role does not provide visa sponsorship. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must not require employer sponsorship for a work visa (current or future). Help reshape the world through proactive healthcare while working with cutting-edge technology and high performing teams with deep expertise - join us to make a difference in people’s lives!

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production services and databases
  • Strong experience building production Python applications and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
  • Experience designing and operating scalable ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines using batch, streaming, or event-driven patterns.
  • Hands-on experience working with clinical or healthcare data, including a strong understanding of FHIR resources, HL7 standards, terminology, and interoperability challenges.
  • Experience designing normalized, dimensional, and domain-oriented data models. You understand how modeling decisions affect data quality, usability, and system performance.
  • Ability to independently lead complex initiatives, make sound technical decisions, and balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with FHIR servers, clinical data repositories, electronic health record systems, or medical imaging and reporting workflows.
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, or DICOM.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and clinical reporting or AI-enabled healthcare products.

Responsibilities

  • Build and Evolve the Medical Data Server: Collaborate with engineers across the Clinical Data team to design, build, and operate the Python backend services and RESTful APIs responsible for managing clinical data.
  • Clinical Data Architecture: Partner closely with the Architecture team and other engineering stakeholders to design and evolve scalable clinical data models using healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR and HL7. Help establish clear boundaries, ownership, and contracts across clinical data domains.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain reliable batch and event-driven pipelines that ingest, transform, validate, and deliver clinical data across operational systems, data platforms, reporting tools, and downstream applications.
  • Data Quality and Reliability: Establish automated validation, testing, reconciliation, and monitoring to identify incomplete, inconsistent, duplicated, or incorrectly mapped clinical data before it affects users or downstream systems.
  • Data Modeling and Transformation: Develop maintainable transformation layers and curated datasets that support clinical reporting, operational analytics, product functionality, and AI use cases.
  • Data Governance and Lineage: Implement practices for data documentation, lineage, provenance, versioning, retention, and auditability. Help ensure clinical data remains trustworthy and explainable throughout its lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with clinical, product, application engineering, architecture, data analytics, and AI teams to translate clinical workflows and business needs into durable technical solutions.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead design discussions, contribute to architectural decisions, review technical implementations, mentor engineers, and help establish engineering standards for clinical data development.
