About The Position

As a Senior Data Developer, Data & AI, you will be responsible for designing and delivering reliable, scalable data pipelines and datasets that power reporting, analytics, and downstream systems across SSENSE's data mesh. Operating within the Technology & Engineering group, you will apply deep technical expertise and data architecture judgment to ensure data is accurate, well-governed, and available to the teams and systems that depend on it. In this role, you will own core data platform components, contribute to emerging semantic layer initiatives, and mentor peers on data modeling and ETL best practices. Ultimately, you will drive innovation and operational excellence to enable seamless digital experiences and support growth in a fast-paced e-commerce environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, Master's degree is an asset.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in Functional and/or Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), with extensive knowledge of Python and its data manipulation libraries (Pandas and NumPy).
• Deep expertise with RDBMS and NoSQL databases at scale, alongside hands-on experience with AWS services (Glue, Athena, Redshift, S3, Lambda, etc.).
• Proficiency using containers, orchestration frameworks, and DevOps/IaC tools (Kubernetes, Terraform), as well as CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with metadata and data-catalog systems, schema design, and continuous integration practices for data pipelines.

• Ability to independently evaluate complex, multi-variable situations with conflicting data and make high-impact decisions in the absence of perfect information.
• Skill in evaluating short-term solutions against long-term architectural health to build scalable, sustainable enterprise solutions.
• Proven ability to apply sophisticated analytical tools to diagnose root causes of systemic failures and simplify complex findings for business stakeholders.
• A track record of challenging technical decisions constructively, guiding architecture reviews, and mentoring team members on development standards.
• Experience or strong interest in designing data-capturing processes that automatically generate high-quality data for knowledge layers and AI use cases.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate scalable data pipelines that cleanse, structure, and integrate data across the SSENSE data mesh, maintaining 99%+ pipeline reliability against defined SLAs.
• Own the accuracy, reliability, and performance of core data platform components, effectively managing trade-offs between delivery speed, maintainability, and technical debt.
• Build and maintain tooling that allows analysts and data owners across domains to model their own data and define contracts, keeping outputs consistent and joinable.
• Contribute to the data and metadata pipelines that support SSENSE's emerging knowledge layer and semantic layer initiatives alongside core platform work.
• Resolve complex pipeline issues, participate in solution and architecture reviews, and mentor peers on data modeling and ETL best practices.
