$170,000 - $200,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer will support hyperscale data center construction programs by focusing on the design of new hyperscale data center buildings, providing engineering solutions to operations staff, and streamlining the resolution of construction issues. This role is part of the Project Management function, responsible for managing projects from initiation to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in data center construction.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and its related products (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
  • Experience and knowledge of working with cross-disciplinary teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, electrical, and architectural.
  • Solid understanding of large-scale, data center mechanical infrastructure, including cooling and fire protection.
  • Familiarity with mission critical infrastructure.
  • Experience coordinating scope with multiple trades (architecture, telecom, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural).
  • Must be able to work independently remotely.
  • Willing to travel to construction sites with little or no supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with waterless cooling solutions (i.e.: air-cooled chillers, dry coolers, airside economizer/IDEC/DX, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with EPA regulations and emissions after-treatment solutions for diesel generators preferred.
  • Experience in hydroponics systems, water quality management and corrosion/fouling prevention is helpful.
  • Proficiency in fuel oil quality standards is helpful.
  • Experience with data center projects inside and outside of the US is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assist in the technical development of mechanical systems (airside & waterside) for hyperscale data centers, including campus planning, general layout/arrangements, CFD & noise modeling, climate data evaluations, hydraulic analyses, pipe sizing, and bin hour analyses.
  • Oversee A/E design consultants, providing direction and amplification in accordance with established engineering standards.
  • Peer review consultant deliverables such as drawing sets, specifications, sequence of operations, calculations, and models, providing comments and resolutions.
  • Review and recommend potential value engineering opportunities.
  • Analyze for redundancies, failure modes, and Single Points Of Failure (SPOFs), collaborating with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modelers to ensure conformance.
  • Perform rapid conceptual sketches using CAD or BIM for internal visualization and spatial/dimensional validations.
  • Assist and occasionally lead projects and solutioning for mechanical issues, outages, fleet-wide improvements, and other needs arising from existing, operational campuses in direct support of DCOps partners.
  • Evaluate post-mortem reports, 8D/root cause analyses, and presentations, providing comments and recommendations.
  • Assist in generating solution/upgrade/improvement options with fleet-wide impact to enhance the reliability and availability of critical operational infrastructure.
  • Assist with data analytics of operational trends (historian trend logs) to evaluate equipment health, remaining useful life, and predictive failure models.
  • Work with partners in construction, design, and change management to compile, prioritize/triage, and process construction-originated engineering issues (e.g., Data Center Bounty program) for standard design/product improvements.
  • Occasionally develop engineering bulletins and route them through established procedures to ensure wide dissemination of design changes.
  • Support overall standard design improvement loops/processes between products, design, construction, and operations.
  • Visit construction sites or operational sites as needed.
  • Operate client's internal “Buganizer” platform to file new bugs, work orders, or close out tasks.
  • Build presentations using Google Slides software to communicate findings, evaluations, and options to internal collaborators.
