About The Position

UC Irvine is a prestigious public university known for its academic achievement and research. Student Housing is a large, self-funded department responsible for housing approximately 9,000 students across multiple communities and buildings. The department provides housing and maintenance services, aiming to increase the percentage of students housed on campus. The Senior Custodian plays a key role in maintaining the facilities within Student Housing.

Requirements

Operate a motor vehicle.
Skill to operate pressure washers, vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet/dry vacs, carpet shampooers and other floor care equipment.
Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community.
Ability to sweep, dust mop, polish and perform semi-skilled housekeeping and general maintenance duties of hanging blinds and draperies.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to read and write English to submit written reports and work orders.
Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals.
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Valid California driver’s license.
Custodial or related cleaning experience.
Must be able to communicate in English – both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
Must be able to pass background check.
Must be willing and able to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be willing and able to assist in the event of a disaster.
Must be able to lift and carry loads over 50 lbs.
Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Experience as a work leader for a small group of custodians, temporary staff or student staff.

Responsibilities

Performs skilled and semi-skilled cleaning, housekeeping, and general maintenance duties.
Operates equipment such as pressure washers and carpet extraction machines.
Maintains facilities in residence halls, apartments, common areas, and exterior locations.
Sets up and takes down special equipment and furniture.
Communicates directly with staff and students in English.
Responsible for the security and maintenance of master keys and assigned equipment.
Drives a motorized cart and University vehicle.
May work evenings, weekends, and overtime.
Acts as a work leader for a small group of custodians, temporary staff, or student staff.
