About The Position

The Senior Custodian provides custodial services at assigned sites, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing a variety of special cleaning operations and overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events. The position performs skilled and semi-skilled cleaning, housekeeping, and/or general maintenance duties in assigned areas, exercising care and caution in the use of supplies and equipment. This position is classified as an Essential Services Employee, maintaining business operations for UT Health Sciences and supporting the physical operations and safety of the campus. It involves performing various operations and services essential to maintain critical infrastructure and ensuring continuous operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
  • Six (6) months of custodial or housekeeping experience.
  • Knowledge of aspects of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services.
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized by custodial staff, e.g., vacuum cleaner and various mopping, sweeping, stripping machines, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, dusting tools, etc.
  • Skill in reading Standard English text in order to follow through on written orders, read labels on cleaning products, or instructions on equipment, and carry out assignments in a safe manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrator, customers, and visitors.
  • Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push, pull, lift, or lower objects weighting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work indoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty, noisy, etc.
  • Ability to maintain highest quality of custodial services at level consistent with university and department standards.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Sweeps, and vacuums carpeting and floors using manual and power equipment.
  • Mops, scrubs, spot cleans, and maintains carpeting, tiles, and floors. Washes and buff floors with floor polisher.
  • Empties wastebaskets and garbage cans, place garbage in outside storage bin.
  • Cleans interior windows using common household equipment and cleaning products.
  • Cleans multilevel stairwells, elevators, docks and tunnel areas, entrances and exits including glass, doors, and hardware, keeps outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
  • Cleans, dusts, and wipes offices, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Cleans kitchen sinks and counters, lockers and benches, shower room walls, fixtures, and floors, drinking fountains, partitions and doors, and roll-up walk-off mats.
  • Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees.
  • Reports damages and acts of vandalism.
  • Performs and/or report minor maintenance repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
