Under direction, provides lead direction in planning, scheduling, assigning and reviewing the work of employees engaged in the maintenance of mechanical metering equipment, as well as those directly involved in the administration of East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) backflow prevention and cross-connection program. Implements and administers the backflow prevention and cross-connection control program. Performs the most complex and/or high exposure inspections on plumbing systems to evaluate for potential cross-connections that can contaminate the public water system. Implements and enforces backflow and cross-connection regulations of potable and recycled water systems. Conducts and oversees cross-connection survey work of the potable or recycled water systems. Coordinates the inspecting, testing, installing, and repairing of backflow prevention devices, water meters, and meter related equipment. Establishes file and document control systems and maintains a variety of records, files, and documentation. This is a senior level classification. The Senior Cross-Connection Specialist/Meter Technician leads and provides work direction for staff specializing in cross-connection inspection and testing, as well as repair and testing of backflow prevention devices and water meters. Individuals in this class perform the more advanced and complex assignments. This class is distinguished from the Meter Repair and Testing Supervisor in that the latter has overall responsibility for the planning and direction of cross-connection inspection and testing and the backflow prevention program in addition to meter inspection, testing and repair activities.
