About The Position

This role contributes to the success of Canadian Business Banking by ensuring individual goals and initiatives are executed to support team strategies and objectives, while complying with regulations and internal policies. The Senior Credit Solutions Manager (Sr. CSM) provides financial solutions to clients through risk analysis, deal structuring, credit pricing, negotiation, and presentation, in partnership with the Senior Client Relationship Manager (SCRM). The incumbent interfaces directly with clients and liaises with Global Risk Management during the credit decision-making process. As a credit specialist, the Sr. CSM manages a portfolio of moderate to higher complexity, targeting clients with credit authorizations typically between $5MM to $35MM and annual sales of $15MM-$75MM. The role is responsible for ensuring the portfolio meets compliance with credit metrics and monitoring for negative trends, working closely with the SCRM and Client Service Associates.

Requirements

  • University degree in business or economics or other Business Specialty background.
  • Previous work experience of at least 2-5 years is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Awareness of business trends, economic, technological, social, legal, and political conditions and factors that could affect credit viability.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of financial statements and accounting principles and policies.
  • Excellent risk assessment and credit skills and ability to structure deals.
  • Strong understanding of loan documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of Canada’s financial services marketplace and of the assigned market area’s key industries, major customers, and competitive positioning.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian Business Banking objectives, strategies, and structures.

  • Strong knowledge of interviewing, solicitation, and business development techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of all commercial management platforms.
  • Working knowledge of services provided by support areas such as Shared Services Business Support Centre.

Responsibilities

  • Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Contributes to the profitable development of Canadian Business Banking by ensuring timely analysis, structuring, and presentation of credit proposals; providing prompt and sound recommendations; ensuring effective communication with the SCRM; recommending pricing for loans and credit-related fees; recommending terms, conditions, and covenants; restructuring marginal proposals into bankable deals; and providing guidance and counsel to SCRM.
  • Ensures accurate communication and effective, timely implementation of authorization terms and conditions by reviewing authorizations, following up for acceptance, addressing issues with loan documentation and security, and liaising with SCRM for necessary changes.
  • Ensures the ongoing quality of the assigned credit portfolio through control and administration of specific conditions and reporting requirements by directing and assisting Client Service Associates, adhering to regulatory and internal Bank policies, and advising senior management of credit weaknesses.
  • Provides coaching and counseling to Client Service Associates by developing their credit competencies and providing timely performance feedback.
  • Champions and supports a culture of diversity and other initiatives aligned with the Bank Strategy.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations, ensuring adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations regarding operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
