About The Position

The Agronomist role is for Bashaw Crop Services, a subsidiary of UFA Co‑operative. This position is responsible for providing immediate agronomic support to customers visiting the branch and proactively working with producers in the field throughout the growing season. The Specialist will assist in enabling the UFA network to grow sales of new and existing product lines, acting as an in-house expert for agronomy. The role involves internal technical and product training, customer presentations, and preparing technical information to support sales and marketing. Success is measured by the trust earned from customers, the quality of agronomic recommendations, and the long-term value created for the farming operations served.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related discipline.
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA), or willingness to obtain.
  • Commercial Pesticide Dispenser Certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation.
  • Precision Agriculture experience.
  • 4R Nutrient Stewardship training or certification.
  • Experience within an agricultural retail environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to write, develop and deliver key messages to customers, vendors, account managers, and product strategy managers.
  • Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing, presentations) are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely agronomic recommendations for fertilizer, seed, crop protection, and crop management.
  • Support walk-in customers with fertility and herbicide recommendations, tank mixes, crop staging, weed identification, disease diagnosis, insect management, and stewardship questions.
  • Develop crop plans, fertility strategies, and annual farm management recommendations.
  • Build long-term relationships based on trust, objectivity, and practical advice.
  • Conduct proactive farm visits and crop scouting.
  • Complete stand counts, weed identification, disease and insect monitoring.
  • Collect and interpret soil, tissue, and water samples.
  • Assist customers with precision agriculture technologies and whole-farm planning.
  • Participate in inventory forecasting, seasonal purchasing, and supplier programs.
  • Maintain accurate customer records through Tronia/AGRE, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, AgCollect, Bayer CSS, TELUS AgData, and other approved systems.
  • Support customer service and branch operations during peak seasonal periods.
  • Participate in product training, demonstration plots, and continuous professional development.
