About The Position

The Senior Credit Analyst provides support to commercial lenders through detailed financial/credit analysis, performs research on industry trends, trains and mentors less experienced analysts, and independently underwrites loan requests with a primary focus on large and/or complex borrowing relationships. This role also involves preparing internal reports and contributing to the overall credit function of the bank.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree, with an emphasis in business, finance or accounting.
  • Supplemental banking education/formal credit training.
  • Good financial analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in WORD, EXCEL and other MS OFFICE applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • 4+ years of related commercial underwriting experience.
  • Knowledge of financial statement fundamentals, accounting concepts, and industry trends and practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with automated underwriting systems is a benefit.
  • Ancillary banking education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial information of prospective and existing borrowers and underwrite loans in conformance with Loan Policy, primarily for large and/or complex borrowing relationships, requiring minimal guidance and completion within 5 active working days.
  • Work directly with Commercial Lending Officers to obtain all necessary information needed to underwrite loan requests.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, analyze financial information, and develop cash flows of prospective and existing borrowers.
  • Prepare loan offering memoranda, analyzing financial, collateral, cash flow, and other appropriate information of prospective borrower’s and guarantors, assessing credit risk, and underwriting in conformance with Loan Policy.
  • Present loan requests to the appropriate loan authority level.
  • Perform analyses on perspective vendors of the Bank on an annual basis when appropriate and on request.
  • Provide leadership, training, and coaching to the Credit Analyst team and back up support for the department Manager.
  • Assist in the collection of all pertinent information on commercial borrowers to ensure continued financial capacity and adherence to loan covenants.
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate record of financial information for each commercial borrower.
  • Maintain commercial credit files to ensure the adequacy of loan documents and supporting information.
  • Assist in determining the scope of the commercial loan portfolio review performed by an outside loan review firm, acting as a liaison with the outside firm in providing requested information and updates.
  • On a limited basis, call on prospective borrowers to introduce the Bank’s lending programs and determine credit needs.
  • On a limited basis, attend meetings with prospective and existing clients with the respective Commercial Lender to obtain appropriate information regarding the Borrower.
  • Maintain a presence in local Chambers of Commerce and other civic or business-related organizations to maintain awareness of business lending opportunities.
  • Order and review environmental initial screenings.
  • Participate in Management Loan Committee meetings as needed.
  • Support the Commercial Credit Manager and/or Team Lead with the training and development of new team members and trainees.
  • In consultation with the CLO and Credit Management, prepare required reporting for Management Loan Committee and Board of Trustees.
  • Prepare high-quality credit presentations with minimal rewrites and conduct accurate credit analysis on all assigned projects.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Complete all required compliance training as assigned in a timely manner.
