Senior Counsel (Remote or Hybrid)

Tyson & Mendes LLP•Jacksonville, FL
•$150,000 - $190,000

About The Position

Tyson & Mendes is seeking an experienced Florida defense attorney to join a busy litigation team handling sophisticated, high-exposure matters throughout Central Florida. The role involves trucking and motor vehicle matters, premises liability, surgical and medical-related cases, and other complex liability litigation. The attorney will take meaningful ownership of cases while collaborating with experienced trial attorneys Holly Howanitz and Stefani Cogsdale on case strategy, motion practice, discovery, depositions, trial preparation, and trials. The position offers close mentorship and opportunities to develop as a litigator, with increasing responsibility as the attorney demonstrates capability. The role is based in Central Florida; Orlando is especially attractive, and the team is connected to the Jacksonville office. There is no expectation of constant travel. Remote, hybrid, or onsite work options are available. The firm provides the resources, technology, training, and opportunities of a national litigation firm. The successful candidate will be an excellent legal writer and thoughtful strategist who can independently advance assignments and cases, handle full case responsibilities, and work effectively with a team. The role also includes client communications, relationship development, leadership for less experienced attorneys, and independent court appearances, depositions, briefs, and trials.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop a case theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff ploy for sympathy or anger.
  • Refuse to accept mediocrity, the average, the standard, or the norm in anything.
  • Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs, and trials.
  • Work as part of a team with all levels of experience.
  • Communicate routinely with clients.
  • Cultivate relationships with the firm’s existing and future clients.
