The Lawyering Project is a legal advocacy organization founded in 2017 that combines traditional impact litigation with movement lawyering to advance reproductive health, rights, and justice across the United States. The organization focuses on laws that restrict reproductive healthcare access, create health disparities, perpetuate gender-based stereotypes, or discriminate based on reproductive decisions. Their vision is a society where individuals can make personal decisions about sex, pregnancy, family, and healthcare according to their own beliefs, with access to safe care and communities. The Lawyering Project operates three legal programs: Litigation, Access & Innovation, and Pro Bono Initiatives. The Access & Innovation Program (A&I) offers free legal advice and technical assistance to those working to advance reproductive health, rights, and justice. Within A&I, the Reproductive Health Law Advising (RHLA) initiative provides direct legal assistance to reproductive healthcare providers and supporters, helping them navigate the post-Roe legal landscape, offering compliance advice for innovative care models, and advising on laws related to abortion, contraception, abortion-related speech, and cross-state care. The organization is committed to supporting individuals seeking, providing, or supporting abortion care amidst new legal challenges following the Dobbs decision, aiming to reshape reproductive rights jurisprudence. They work collaboratively with movement partners to achieve their vision of a more just and equitable future. The Lawyering Project is a 501(c)(3) organization with an all-remote staff of approximately two dozen full-time employees across the U.S. and an annual operating budget of around $6 million.
