About The Position

Veeam is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Senior Counsel, Product & Privacy to join its global Legal team. The role advises Product, Engineering, Security, and business teams on enterprise software, cloud services, privacy, artificial intelligence, and emerging technology regulations. It supports the development, launch, and commercialization of Veeam products and services by translating complex legal requirements into practical guidance that balances risk, enables innovation, and supports responsible growth. The position advises throughout the product lifecycle, assesses new products and initiatives, and provides guidance on software, cloud services, licensing, intellectual property, open-source software, privacy, data protection, AI, and cybersecurity regulations. It also drafts and reviews product and privacy documentation, manages complex matters, monitors emerging laws, and develops scalable legal processes and resources. The role is remote and supports a global organization.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
10+ years of relevant legal experience, including significant experience advising on technology products, software development, or related product and regulatory matters.
Strong technical understanding of software and SaaS services, including legal issues affecting enterprise software, cloud services, and technology-driven businesses.
Substantial experience advising on privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR and U.S. privacy regulations.
Ability to independently advise Product and Engineering teams throughout product development and analyze technical product functionality, data flows, and business models for legal and regulatory risks.
Exceptional legal judgment and ability to develop practical, risk-based solutions that balance legal requirements and commercial objectives.
Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to technical and nonlegal stakeholders.
Ability to independently manage multiple complex matters, set priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced, global organization.

Nice To Haves

Prior in-house legal experience at an enterprise software, SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or cybersecurity company.
Experience advising on AI governance, AI-enabled product development, and emerging AI regulation, including the EU AI Act, EU Cyber Resilience Act, and Digital Operational Resilience Act.
Familiarity with software intellectual property, open-source licensing, technology transactions, and other IP matters.
Experience counseling multinational technology organizations on cross-border privacy and regulatory issues.
Privacy or AI governance certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or AIGP.
Technical fluency and interest in software architectures, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Advise Product Management, Engineering, and other stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle, from design and development through launch, commercialization, and ongoing operations.
Assess products, features, technologies, and business initiatives for relevant legal and regulatory requirements and develop practical risk-mitigation strategies.
Provide guidance on enterprise software, SaaS, cloud services, on-premises and hybrid solutions, software licensing, intellectual property, open-source software, third-party integrations, and emerging technologies.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, and other stakeholders to understand product architectures, functionality, integrations, and data flows, and incorporate privacy-by-design principles.
Advise on global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, international data transfers, impact assessments, data processing arrangements, and personal-data practices.
Draft, review, and advise on product and privacy agreements and documentation, including end-user license agreements, terms of service, product disclosures, data processing agreements, and privacy notices.
Advise on legal and regulatory issues involving AI, machine learning, AI governance, intellectual property, data use, transparency, responsible AI development, and AI-enabled products and features.
Monitor emerging global technology and cybersecurity regulations, including the EU AI Act and Cyber Resilience Act, and translate requirements into practical technical and operational guidance.
Independently manage complex legal matters, identify emerging legal and regulatory risks, and collaborate with the global Legal team and outside counsel as needed.
Develop scalable legal processes, playbooks, templates, policies, and training materials.
Review and advise on AI use cases and technologies for internal and product uses.
