About The Position

Beacon Mutual is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to join its small, collegial and dynamic General Counsel’s Office. This position will manage the company's contracting process, including partnering with business units to evaluate and mitigate risk, and to negotiate and revise contracts. This role oversees the contract lifecycle including evaluation of commercial, legal and data security risks, leading contract negotiations and providing business units with advice consistent with company's risk tolerance. This role will also support the company’s legal, regulatory, and licensing compliance functions, manage disputes including litigation and pre-litigation, and handle subpoena requests on behalf of the company. Additional responsibilities include providing general legal support and assisting management on strategic initiatives and corporate projects, participation in enterprise-wide legal compliance, protection of company's IP rights, licensing compliance and audits, overseeing outside counsel and providing general legal support.

Requirements

  • JD, admitted to practice law in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts, or eligible and willing to obtain admission as a condition of employment.
  • At least five years’ experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior in-house experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts regulatory insurance law preferred but not required.

Responsibilities
