About The Position

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel – Construction Industries to provide legal advice and support on a broad range of legal issues across the Construction Industries segment globally. Working closely with Lead Counsels within the segment, the successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, delivering practical, business-focused legal support and counsel helping the company manage risk and achieve its objectives. The role offers significant responsibility, meaningful client engagement, and the opportunity to advise on business issues across a global enterprise. The position reports to the Assistant General Counsel for Construction Industries Solutions Core Regions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner
  • Knowledge of the Enterprise strategy and willingness to work at all levels of the CI segment to support business results
  • Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives
  • Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the legal function or department; ability to provide legal consulting, advice and assistance
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Eligible to practice as in-house counsel in Texas
  • Must have experience providing counsel for a global business and solid knowledge of Caterpillar's worldwide operations, policies, objectives, and history
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience is typically required

Responsibilities

  • Manage legal matters and collaborate with internal subject matter experts supporting business activities ranging from product design, market research, supply procurement, marketing & sales, e-Commerce, general commercial matters, compliance, indirect purchasing, logistics, real estate, antitrust, franchising, warranties, litigation, product regulatory, labor & employment and benefits, environmental, health and safety, trade, customs, export controls, to intellectual property
  • Assess legal risk, identify and contribute to resolution of technical legal issues with a broad band of risk exposure with guidance from management.
  • Contribute to analysis and recommendations for the relevant Lead Counsels.
