About The Position

Tree of Life Canada ULC is seeking a Senior Corporate Accountant to lead the establishment of best-in-class period-end close (PEC) processes. This role involves the timely consolidation and preparation of financial statements for internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating leadership in internal controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting guidelines. The Senior Corporate Accountant will communicate with external auditors on financial statements and accounting issues, and assist in coordinating annual audit and quarterly review activities. This position will collaborate with FP&A, Accounting Operations & Process Transformation Teams, and external consultants. The role requires actions to be consistent with Tree of Life Canada’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary business degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience in finance
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge and the ability to interpret complex technical accounting issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, in an ambiguous and developing structure.
  • Self-starter, well-organized with excellent attention to detail and a continuous process improvement mindset.
  • Proficient in financial modelling in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to comfortably interact with senior management in a professional manner.
  • Track record of meeting tight working deadlines, and prioritizing workload are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with IFRS / US GAAP is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA is considered an asset.
  • Experience with legacy systems (eg. AS400) is an asset.
  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (eg. Power BI) is considered an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in food safety programs including SQF (Safe Quality Food).
  • With oversight from the Senior Manager, Finance, establish best-in-class PEC (period-end close) processes.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements for TOLC and its subsidiaries.
  • Work with the Finance team on financial reports and presentations to KeHE.
  • Lead the compilation and review of supporting schedules, content and notes for both internal and external financial reports.
  • Serve as a technical accounting resource across the organization, including maintaining the Finance Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Monitor developments in accounting standards to assess potential impacts to the business and implementation of new or revised standards.
  • Work with FP&A and Costing Team in the completion of inventory and cost of sales financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with third-party advisors on income tax matters and regulatory filings.
  • Own statutory filings, including HST, property tax and other applicable returns.
  • Own fixed asset accounting and reporting.
  • Liaise with external auditors to support the quarterly review and annual audit process.
  • Liaise with legal department on external reporting regulations and guidelines to assess potential impacts on external reporting.
  • Execute KPI, competitor reporting, analytics, ad-hoc reports and proactively identify value-add business insights and present to management.
  • Support teams in identifying, verifying, analyzing, and implementing process improvement and process re-engineering opportunities.
  • Identify and reduce all business and financial risks through effective implementation and monitoring of controls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
